He multi-screen waveform monitor 4K/HDR LV5490 de Leader has been chosen as a master reference test instrument by several European public broadcasters who are broadcasting the Russia Soccer World Cup in 4K.

“The LV5490 has established itself as the preferred choice for many broadcasters and large mobile unit service companies covering large-scale events, such as the current World Cup in Russia,” said Kevin Salvidge, European Regional Development Director at Leader.

Throughout the Championship, a total of 28 matches will be covered in 4K, including the final on July 15, whose signals will be monitored with the help of Leader technology.

Leader's LV5490 offers 4K, UHD, 3G, HD and SD test and measurement features in a portable 4U half-rack width unit with a 9-inch high-definition front-facing monitor.

It provides all the capabilities needed to realize the full potential of high dynamic range in both HD and UHD.

Signal displays such as video waveform, chroma levels, color vectors, bar graphs, noise, video patterns, 3G quad phase, data tables, camera image output, color graph, multi-channel audio levels and surround sound vectors can be displayed simultaneously in a user-customizable layout. If a specific item requires detailed attention, it can be quickly selected for display at a higher resolution or full screen.

The LV5490 supports preconfigured settings to ensure that reference levels are correct for both HLG and Dolby PQ production. A marker of 75% HLG or 58% PQ is also automatically displayed on the waveform monitor grid. This represents the reference level, allowing the vision engineer to ensure that any object located at the center of interest within a scene occupies the appropriate signal range and that sufficient free space is reserved for specular highlights.

Another recently added feature is the system's optical gamma transfer function for HLG and Sony 'SR-Live for HDR' workflow.

The Leader Cinelite HDR toolset also comes as a standard feature of the LV5490, allowing easy evaluation of relative exposure and overall luminance during production. A focus assist option allows highly precise adjustment of camera focus on set to match the ability of 4K and UHD formats to handle very precise image details.

Complementing its front panel display, the LV5490 provides 1920 x 1080 HD DVI and HD-SDI for connection to external monitors. Simultaneous display of up to four 3 gigabit/s SDI inputs is possible, including overlays. The size and location of individual channels can be adjusted on the screen using a USB pointer so the user is not limited to fixed-sized quadrants. Operators can select the size and position of the measurement area as well as the Y/G/B/R component channel.

Additionally, an alarm can be set to alert operators if the noise level exceeds a predefined threshold. An integrated low-pass filter allows elements of the high-frequency band to be removed at the time of noise measurement.
