ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery to lead joint OTT platform in Germany
Both ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery have invited public broadcasters RTL, ARD and ZDF to join this project, which is scheduled to launch in the first half of 2019.
ProSiebenSat.1 y Discovery will join forces to launch a joint OTT platform in Germany through the integration of the streaming company 7tv, the video on demand service Maxdome y Eurosport Player which will no longer be offered as independent individual services.
Both ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery have invited public broadcasters RTL, ARD and ZDF to join this project whose launch is scheduled for the first half of 2019.
The OTT platform, whose name has not yet been revealed, will distribute live content, a media library with local content, as well as Hollywood productions and sports content. It will feature a free ad-supported service, a subscription-based ad-free service and premium packages offering premium sports and movies. On the other hand, both ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery will produce tailored content.
Max Conze, CEO of ProSiebenSat.1, acknowledges that "all of us want to watch the entertainment we like whenever, wherever and on any device. So I am very pleased that ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery are joining forces to create the number one German streaming platform. Our goal is 10 million users in the first two years and we are urgently putting very significant resources and investment into this effort. We invite RTL and ARD/ZDF to join us."

Together with ProSiebenSat.1, we are building a world-class streaming service that delights fans in one of our most important international markets, while creating a new future model for viewers to enjoy their favorite content."
The new platform, which will be directed by Alexandar Vassilev, former Google and YouTube executive, must still have the approval of the regulatory authorities that have already stopped previous initiatives such as the Amazonas project (between RTL and ProSiebenSat.1) and Gold, promoted by ARD and ZDF.
