Amazon Prime Video reveals its production plans for original series
The platform confirms the filming of the series 'The Lord of the Rings' and announces the production of the horror fiction 'Them', the drama series 'The Expatriates' and the comedy 'Upload'.
Amazon Prime Video has announced its production plans for original series with which it intends to strengthen its offer compared to other platforms in the market.
Among the news, Amazon has confirmed the production of a series inspired by The Lord of the Rings. Those in charge of running the production will be JD Payne and Patrick Mackay, a duo that has worked in recent years on major projects such as Star Trek 4.
In addition to this long-awaited news for fans of the Tolkien saga, Amazon has revealed what will be its first horror fiction. Sony Pictures Television will produce for the platform, Them, which will feature executive producer Lena Waithe, writer and executive producer Little Marvin, and executive producers Roy Lee, Miri Yoon and Michael Connelly with Vertigo Prime.
The series is set in 1953, when Alfred and Lucky Emory decide to move their family from North Carolina to a neighborhood in Los Angeles. The family home on an idyllic street with trees lined up around it becomes ground zero, where real and supernatural malevolent forces threaten to provoke, attack and destroy them.
Nicole Kidman will produce The Expatriates
The Australian producer and actress Nicole Kidman, will carry out its first series for Amazon through its production company Blossom Films: The expatriates, based on the best-selling novel by Janice Y.K. Read.
Blossom Films picked up the rights to the book in February 2017 and will star Alice Bell (The Beautiful Lie) in the script of a series that could star Kidman herself.
On the other hand, a romantic science fiction satire will come to the Amazon Prime Video platform with Upload, which was created and written by Greg Daniels and will have ten half-hour chapters.
Finally, the long-awaited historical series The Romanoffs It already has a release date. The series created, written, directed and produced by the winner of nine Emmy Awards, Matthew Weiner, will arrive on the platform on October 12.
