He European Observatory of the Audiovisual Sector, which is part of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, has just published a report that offers a valuable overview of the composition of the catalogs of VOD services in the European Union. In total, this year's report covers 74 TVOD and SVOD catalogues, focusing on pan-European and multinational services for TVOD catalogues.
In the pay-per-view (TVOD) market, the average iTunes catalog includes around 24% of films from the European Union, of which 4% are purely national productions. In comparison, the average share of EU films in Microsoft catalogs is 17%, of which 35% are domestic.
For subscription VOD (SVOD), EU movies have a 20% share of SVOD catalogues. In the case of EU films, national films represent only 15% compared to 85% of non-national EU films.
Regarding pan-European services, the catalogs available in the five largest European countries (Germany, Spain, France, the United Kingdom and Italy), have a higher proportion of national films.
