More bandwidth and greater capacities with the new 400 GbE switches from Cisco
With a much more compact size, these switches provide four times more bandwidth and four times more scalability than existing switches, but will not require four times more power.
To meet the bandwidth and scalability needs of data-intensive applications such as streaming video or applications that use artificial intelligence and machine learning, Cisco has launched the nuevos switches 400 Gigabit Ethernet (400G).
With a much more compact size, these switches provide four times more bandwidth and four times more scalability than existing switches, but will not require four times more power.
And, based on Cisco's Nexus portfolio, customers can choose to deploy 400G in a way that best suits their needs. They can be used alone or in combination with Cisco security, automation, visibility and analytics software.
As highlighted Roland Acra, senior vice president and general manager of Data Center at Cisco, "our 400G switches not only provide a new level of speed. They support the key capabilities that customers expect for their modern data-intensive workloads and Cloud environments."
"Ultra-fast policies, segmentation and whitelisting. Real-time visibility of packets, flows and events. Smart buffering for big data and machine learning workloads. Or the ability to prioritize critical traffic on demand. These are the capabilities that Cisco has been providing to our customers in the multiple generations of Nexus switches. And now we are doing it again with the 400G portfolio," continues the manager.
Full 400 GbE capabilities
Of Gold foresees that the 400G market growing rapidly, reaching a value of $1.5 billion in 2019 and more than doubling in 2020. Cisco's new Nexus switches offer organizations the most comprehensive and customizable capabilities:
Designed for the most demanding environments: The new 400G switches are designed to support the key capabilities the Nexus portfolio is known for. This includes advanced telemetry support for greater application visibility, real-time analytics, and troubleshooting. In addition to intelligent buffers specially adapted for the traffic of horizontally scalable applications. Customers can also integrate the switches with proven Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI), Tetration and Network Assurance Engine software solutions, increasing application agility and improving data center security and automation by bringing 400G speed to Intent Based Networking.
A great advantage is the flexibility of choice as customers can choose the options that best suit their needs, whether it is web scalability, high-density networks, specialized applications or intent-based networks.
Cisco is actively working with partners and third-party organizations to drive standardization and interoperability around 400G. Cisco has recently collaborated on the latest 400G industry events with interconnection and testing partners, showcasing cost-effective 100G lambda optics modules for 400G.
