Harmonic will allow SES to optimize its satellite bandwidth
SES will install Harmonic's XOS advanced media processing at the headend and XOS Edge transcoding solutions at remote sites for primary distribution of video signals.
Harmonic will be associated with SES for technology updates associated with the SES transition plan presented to the Federal Communications Commission in the United States on June 19, 2020.
SES and Harmonic will work together with this deployment, freeing up spectrum for 5G while simultaneously enabling SES C-band customers to maintain the quality and resilience of their critical video services.
Both companies will work together to deploy the XOS advanced media processing Harmonic in the header and XOS Edge transcoding solutions at remote sites for primary distribution of video signals. XOS solutions build on Harmonic's widely deployed streaming platform, bringing unique OTT capabilities to satellite distribution.
“We are proud to support SES, its customers and the communications industry to enable the transformation of the C-band spectrum for 5G,” he said. Jeremy Rosenberg, senior vice president of business development at Harmonic.
“Our software-based solutions set the standard for flexibility by enabling these traditional satellite delivery networks to offer solutions with industry-leading bandwidth efficiency,” he added.
