YLE and Mediapro bring the 'Nordic noir' genre to the Mediterranean with the filming of 'The Paradise'
Filming has begun in the cold and dark Finnish city of Oulu and will continue in Fuengirola (Málaga) at the beginning of next year, between the months of January and April.
Disappearances, intrigues and investigations are some of the ingredients of The Paradise, international co-production of the group Mediapro, the Finnish public broadcaster YLE y MRP Matila Röhr Productions Oy that will move the gender nordic noir to the Mediterranean. Spanish actors Fran Perea (The Serranos, Luna, the mystery of Calenda, The sonata of silence, Sad trumpet ballad), Maria Romero (Romantic stories (a bit) bitchy, The Olive Tree) y Oscar Zafra (Dear teacher, La casa de papel) appear in the cast.
Los eight episodes that make up this criminal drama are based on contrasts. Thus, filming began last October in the cold and dark Finnish city of Oulu and will continue in Fuengirola (Málaga) at the beginning of next year, between the months of January and April, where there is a permanent community of approximately 15,000 Finns.
The Paradise Its main axis is memories and those people who either remain anchored in them or try to forget them. It is scheduled to premiere on the YLE network at the end of 2019.
Finnish actress Riitta Havukainen plays the protagonist, Hilkka Mäntymäki, a 60-year-old veteran detective from Oulu who arrives in Fuengirola with one last case: the investigation of the mysterious disappearance of a Finnish family. Hilkka will discover that in Spain some pensioners have died under strange circumstances.
Along with Fran Perea, well known in Finland for his role as Marcos in The Serranos, María Romero and Óscar Zafra, the series also features Risto Tuorila, Armi Toivanen and Carl-Kristian Rundman.
Dialogues in Finnish, Spanish and English
Matti Laine (author of crime drama Bordertown) is the main screenwriter of The Paradise, based on a new plot concept, in which the two extremes of Europe - the darkness of the north and the clarity of the south - collide.
With dialogues in Finnish, Spanish and English, The Paradise is directed by Marja Pyykkö, at the helm of the police series Hooked y Black windows (winner of the prestigious Golden Venia award); Heikki Färm is responsible for photography, and Ran Tellem (Emmy winner as executive producer of Homeland), director of International Development at Mediapro, is in charge of developing the fiction.
The Paradise joins other international co-productions by Mediapro, such as All for the Game, with DirecTv, and The Young Pope, by Paolo Sorrentino, with Jude Law and Diane Keaton.
