SMPTE expands its virtual classroom with a new course on HDR and workflows
Led by Pierre Routhier, this course will cover critical concepts and practical considerations across the HDR workflow from capture to post-production, distribution and visualization.
SMPTE, the organization whose working standards have supported a century of advancements in entertainment technology and whose members span the globe, is expanding the SMPTE Virtual Classroom offerings with a new course: High Dynamic Range (HDR) Technology and Media and Entertainment Workflows.
Directed by Pierre Routhier, a specialist in advanced image processing, this course will cover critical concepts and practical considerations throughout the HDR workflow from capture to post-production, distribution and visualization.
The director of training at SMPTE, Joel Welch, highlighted that “SMPTE Virtual Classroom courses are a valuable resource for technologists, engineers, and professionals involved in creating professional media, as the course offerings support a deeper understanding of important technologies and standards related to SMPTE.”
“The demand for more HDR training has been significant, and we are pleased to offer a comprehensive course that will help professionals make the most of this exciting format and its enormous potential,” he added.
The course will delve into the basic principles of HDR, including human perception of light and how it is captured, the optoelectronic transfer function (OETF), the electro-optical transfer function (EOTF), the HDR ecosystem, its workflows… The course will begin on January 14, 2019 and will last six weeks.
Los SMPTE Virtual Classroom courses are online and attract participants from all over the world. During these blended learning courses, participants participate in independent study and weekly hour-long instructor-led coaching sessions that help them understand more complex topics and activities.
Live training sessions are recorded so that those who cannot attend can view them on demand, and instructors also provide timely responses to participant questions posed through the course's online discussion forum. Each virtual course offering has a start date, end date, and weekly learning objectives. Participants who successfully complete a course receive a Certificate from SMPTE that recognizes their investment of time and effort, as well as their commitment to advancing their careers.
Self-study courses
New for 2019, SMPTE will offer self-study course options for all Virtual Classroom courses. Self-study offerings contain the same course material as instructor-led versions, but participants have twice as much time to study.
