José Luis Cuerda will receive the Feroz Honor Award
The director of 'Amanece que no es poco', 'The Animated Forest' or 'The Language of the Butterflies' will receive this recognition on January 19.
The Spanish director, screenwriter and producer Jose Luis Cuerda will be the Fierce Honor Award of the sixth edition of these awards granted by AICE (Association of Cinematographic Informants of Spain).
The gala, which will be hosted by actress Ingrid García-Jonsson on January 19 at the Bilbao Arena, will recognize the more than 40 years of experience of the author of works as relevant as It dawns, which is not enough, The animated forest, The sow, The tongue of the butterflies o blind sunflowers.
“His filmography is living history of Spanish cinema,” highlights María Guerra, president of AICE.
Also, his latest work behind the cameras: Time after, premieres throughout Spain this December 28 and is up for the Feroz Award for best comedy. The film is the spiritual sequel to its 1989 title: Dawn, which is not little, and it has had a choral cast featuring names such as Roberto Álamo, Blanca Suárez, Carlos Areces, Berto Romero, Joaquín Reyes or Arturo Valls, among many others.
With the Feroz de Honor Award, José Luis Cuerda joins a list that includes figures such as José Sacristán, Carlos Saura, Rosa María Sardá, Narciso “Chicho” Ibáñez Serrador or Verónica Forqué, winner of the last edition.
Rope: a lifetime dedicated to cinema
Born in Albacete in 1947, the director, screenwriter and producer José Luis Cuerda began the audiovisual world as a technician at Spanish Television; Various cultural programs are developed and directed there, but it will be in 1977 when he makes the leap into fiction with The Tunnel y Bad Streak, for this last work he is also in charge of the script. In 1982 he made and wrote his first feature film: Evens and nones, which place it within the current known as “Madrid comedy.”
One of the hallmarks of his filmography is absurd humor, something that is evident in his following work: The animated forest (winner of five Goya Awards, including best film). Behind her titles as notable as The Marrana, As in heaven as on earth, The tongue of butterflies (for which he received an Ondas Award), The education of fairies o blind sunflowers, among others. A succession of titles that elevate him as a reference in Spanish cinematography.
In the television field, he makes various productions, among which the direction of the second season of the popular series stands out. Razors, starring actor Pepe Rubianes.
In addition to his role as director and screenwriter, his work as a producer stands out. José Luis was one of the first to see and trust in the talent of Alejandro Amenábar, so much so that he produced his first three films: Thesis, Open your eyes y The others.
His most recent work dates back to 2018 and is the feature film Time after. A crazy futuristic comedy with a great ensemble cast.
