The sole administrator of RTVE, Rosa María Mateo, accompanied by the corporate general director, Federico Montero, has announced in Barcelona the double increase in broadcast hours in Catalan and the increase in TVE disconnections in Catalonia, within a year, while strengthening the San Cugat production center.

Mateo has assured that the ambitious project foresees a doubling the current 20.5 hours over the course of the first year, y up to 80 hours in the second, significantly and progressively increasing its own production in Catalan and dubbing, in all spaces, News, magazines, debates, documentaries and films, and fundamentally in La 2, where public service and quality have great social recognition.

In this way, Mateo announces "a project that represents a firm commitment to become, definitively, the television of all Catalans, a medium established in this society, which will speak even more in its language, in Catalan, and which will give a voice to each and every one of its citizens. TVE will express itself more in the mother tongue in which the citizens of Catalonia speak, and we will do so, of course, in harmony with the use of Spanish. No more and no less than what is done in society."

The project presented this Wednesday will be financed, as announced by the corporate general director of RTVE, Federico Montero, with an item established in the General State Budgets that are currently being processed. The Public Radio and Television Law of 2006 mandates 'promoting territorial cohesion, plurality and the linguistic and cultural diversity of Spain'. Likewise, the Law says that the production of European audiovisual content in native Spanish languages ​​must be 'encouraged and digital and multimedia creation promoted, as a contribution to the development of Spanish and European cultural industries'.

The director of RTVE in Catalonia was also present at the presentation of this initiative, Carles Gonzalez, who has announced a Catalan edition of the contest Know and Win, the production of the series in Catalan for La 1 Shared bathroom which will focus on four women: one Catalan, one Valencian, one Mallorcan and one German, and the broadcast of two concerts by the RTVE Orchestra and Choir, one at the Gran Teatre del Liceu and another in an outdoor space, to bring classical music closer to the whole world. TVE Catalunya began its broadcasts sixty years ago on the afternoon of July 14, 1959 when he was officially born from the Miramar hotel, with the great enthusiasm generated by that first greeting from José Luis Barcelona with his “Good afternoon, from Balcón del Mediterráneo.” Shortly before, in February of that same year, the first broadcast of a Madrid-Barça match had been made, a classic that caused all the televisions to be sold out in stores. But it would not be until 1964 when the first program was broadcast in Catalan, Theater in Catalan. Another decade had to pass, until in 1974 production in this language continued, something that was consolidated at the same time as democracy itself. In 1982 an FC Barcelona match could be heard in Catalan.
