The media and entertainment sector in Spain has experienced a significant increase in the last twenty years. Transformation period, with a significant increase in the diversity of the offer (operators, products, brands).
Throughout these two decades, private television, as in the Spanish media and entertainment ecosystem, has faced different events that have evolved and transformed the sector: the influence of macroeconomic and sociocultural factors, regulatory evolution or technological changes, which have been transforming both the way of consuming and the value chain of the business. These are some examples of those developments that are analysed in this report.
Over almost a hundred pages, the document summarises two decades of private television in Spain, analysing the transformation experienced in these years and anticipating the future which is to come with an eye on new regulatory changes such as the second digital dividend and the local adaptation of the new audiovisual directive of the European Union.
Coinciding with this presentation, the general director of UTECA, Andrés Armas, has been confident that the Government's DTT Technical Plan for this new dividend will see the light of day in the coming days or weeks in order to implement the frequency release and the migration of current DTT broadcasts.
"The unofficial news available to me says that the public consultation is imminent. If that consultation has, as it seems reasonable to assume, at least a couple of weeks for answers to be given from the different agents, it will have to be assumed that before the end of February, the Technical Plan will be a reality. There are still no reasons to be nervous, right now," said Armas.
Last June, the Roadmap that will guide the transition process was made public, which is expected to end with the release of the 700 MHz band for subsequent use by mobile telephony services before June 2020, within the calendar established by the European Union.
