Another step forward in remote production and high-quality sound at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships
mc² consoles and various audio over IP and control solutions brought the best sound to viewers around the world while Lawo technology opened up new possibilities for remote production.
For two weeks the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2019 held at the National Arena in Åre, Sweden. The tests ended on Sunday, February 17, with the final slalom competition and the closing ceremony.
The event saw new world champions crowned in downhill, super-G, giant slalom, slalom, alpine combination… breaking new ground in remote production.
With the participation of the best international athletes, the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships also shined through sound and images transmitted to a television audience around the world.
The Swedish company SVT provided host production coverage, pushing the boundaries of remote production when sent audio and video signals (from 80+ cameras) from the field over two 100 Gbps fiber circuits to Stockholm control rooms.
SVT employed a remote audio production setup Theirs IP based, using up to 32 nodes Their AoIP A__mic8 for the microphone contribution and a Lawo mc²96 audio production console of 72 faders in Stockholm, plus a additional remote console with 24 faders mc²96 in Åre.
Control under VSM
Global control of all video and audio was handled by the sistema VSM (Virtual Studio Manager System) from Lawo, which also provided logical switching between the 160 AfVs (Audio Follow Video) events on the mc²96 console. Lawo also provided on-site consulting for the configuration of the AoIP infrastructure.
The Lawo mc² series audio mixing console has been specifically designed to provide optimal performance in audio and video production environments through its native support of all relevant AoIP standards: SMPTE 2110-30, AES67, Ravenna and Dante.
The A__mic8 nodes are developed for multiple applications and environments, designed to meet the highest demands in audio quality, providing ultra-low distortion and noise, with premium microphone preamplifiers.
Lawo VSM is a standalone, IP-based broadcast control system that easily integrates with a wide variety of popular broadcast equipment, including audio and video matrixes and mixers, audio routers and consoles, multi-displays, intercoms and other third-party devices.
