The program will fund Brainstorm's 'TelePorter' project to develop an augmented reality teleportation system for immersive news.

Brainstorm Infinityset

Digital News InitiativeBrainstorm has been selected among the winning projects of the program Digital News Initiative (DNI) of Google. The DNI program is designed to reinforce the presence of journalists in the digital age, and is aimed at organizations and people seeking to create original journalism to provide citizens with trusted news and content, and with projects focused on strengthening sustainable news ecosystems.

With the diversification of the journalistic landscape, as a consequence of Internet television and lower market access costs, new challenges and opportunities arise. Television news and journalism in general faces the challenge of remaining relevant, engaging and useful to audiences, particularly at a time when budgets are increasingly tight and competition for audiences is increasing.

The opportunity is, therefore, to create affordable formulas that allow a new generation of journalists to provide television news that reflects the traditional values of journalism while relying on the possibilities offered by new technologies.

Brainstorm's TelePorter allows you to create engaging and immersive news content using technology augmented reality (AR), by allowing reporters to appear anywhere, or by having the interviewer and interviewee meet in the same place, regardless of where they are physically. By “transporting” journalists and guests to an AR environment, the audience has access to much more attractive news, and the system also allows the inclusion of additional content from standard presentation tools. TelePorter technology will be as easy to use as it is affordable, allowing small televisions to also access advanced news technology.

TeleTransporter

The project is based on Brainstorm's experience in 3D graphics, virtual sets and augmented reality, and arises from the Patented TrackFree technology, and more specifically the renowned tool InfinitySet TeleTransporter, and other advanced features such as virtual shadows, selective focus or optical character tracking, among others. This technology is the basis on which the TelePorter project is developed, designed to empower a new generation of journalists with new and attractive technologies that improve the way news is created and distributed. Likewise, the development of a single control room gives rise to a unique, affordable and easy-to-manage product from a single operator station.

According to Francisco Ibanez, director of R&D projects at Brainstorm, “we are delighted to be part of Google's Digital News Initiative program, which will allow us to expand our advanced AR technology to new fields such as journalism, providing more and better tools for next-generation news in the digital age.”
