Apple reveals super-powerful Mac Pro and new Pro Display XDR monitor
It also introduced Apple's Afterburner, an innovative accelerator card that allows you to play three ProRes 8K RAW video streams at once.
Apple presented this Monday the new Mac Pro, your new completely redesigned workstation for professionals, and the professional monitor Pro Display XDR.
The new Mac includes Xeon processors typical of a workstation with up to 28 cores, a high-performance memory system with a whopping 1.5 TB capacity, eight PCIe expansion slots and a graphics architecture equipped with the most powerful graphics card in the world.
He has also presented Afterburner from Apple, an innovative accelerator card that allows you to play three ProRes 8K RAW video streams at once.
The Pro Display 32-inch Retina 6K display with a fantastic wide color gamut (P3) of 10 bits, a spectacular brightness capable of reaching 1,600 nits, an incredible contrast of 1,000,000:1 and a super wide viewing angle. And all, at an unbeatable recommended retail price. Together, the new Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR are the most powerful tools Apple has ever put in the hands of professional customers and will change their workflows forever.
Phil Schiller, senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing at Apple, comments that "we have designed the Mac Pro with users in mind who need a modular system with the highest levels of performance, expansion possibilities and configuration options. Between the powerful Xeon processors, the enormous memory capacity, the revolutionary GPU architecture, the possibilities of PCIe expansion, the Afterburner accelerator card and its impeccable design, the new Mac Pro is a monster that will allow professionals to do their best at work. "
“The Pro Display
Designed for customers looking for the ultimate in CPU performance—for workflows like rendering in production, running hundreds of virtual instruments, or simulating an app on a dozen iOS devices at once—Mac Pro features powerful Xeon processors with up to 28 cores with 64-lane PCI Express to deliver massive performance and massive bandwidth. It provides more than 300 watts of power, plus a cutting-edge thermal architecture that allows the processor to run non-stop at full performance.
For professionals working on even the largest projects, whether analyzing huge data sets or running multiple professional applications at once, the Mac Pro provides enormous memory capacity to meet your increasingly demanding needs. With a six-channel memory architecture and 12 physical DIMM slots, the new Mac Pro offers a whopping 1.5TB of memory, the most capacity ever in a Mac. And with eight PCI Express expansion slots, twice as many as in the previous generation Mac Pro tower, professionals can customize and expand their system like never before in a single workstation.
Graphic architecture
For professionals animating 3D film products, compositing 8K scenes, and assembling complex 3D environments, graphical performance has never been more important. That's why the Mac Pro includes the world's most powerful graphics card and Up to 56 teraflops of graphics performance in a single system. For the first time in a graphics card, its innovative graphics expansion architecture, Apple's MPX Module, integrates Thunderbolt and offers more than 50 watts of power. Plus, because the computer's thermal system cools the MPX Module, the Mac Pro is super quiet.
The Mac Pro's graphics options start with the Radeon Pro 580X. The Mac Pro debuts the Radeon Pro Vega II, which has up to 14 teraflops of computing power and 32 GB of memory with 1 TB/s memory bandwidth, the most on any GPU. The Mac Pro also introduces the Radeon Pro Vega II Duo for the first time, with two Vega II GPUs delivering impressive graphics performance of 28 teraflops and 64 GB of memory, making it the most powerful graphics card in the world. The Mac Pro can accommodate two MPX Modules, so customers can use two Vega II Duos to enjoy 56 teraflops of graphics performance and 128 GB of video memory.
The new Mac Pro debuts the Afterburner accelerator, equipped with a programmable ASIC capable of decoding up to 6.3 billion pixels per second. With Afterburner, video editors using high-quality cameras who need to convert native file formats to low-speed proxy files for easy editing can now use the camera's native formats directly and decode up to three 8K ProRes RAW video sequences and 12 4K ProRes RAW video sequences in real time,1 virtually eliminating low-speed proxy workflows.
Modular housing with 360º access
The design of the new Mac Pro begins with a spatial stainless steel frame that incorporates an aluminum casing that can be removed for unobstructed access to the entire system. The framework facilitates modularity and flexibility, and includes handles that allow you to move the equipment throughout the studio. The case also features a grid structure to optimize cooling and minimize noise. Customers who want to rack-mount the Mac Pro, whether in editing or team rooms, will have a version optimized for rack-mounting available starting this fall.
With up to 28-core Xeon processors, 56 teraflops of graphics performance, and the revolutionary Afterburner accelerator, the new Mac Pro delivers performance that will forever change the way professionals work. There are already professional application developers who are enjoying incredible results that until now were impossible to achieve with a single workstation.
For the first time on any system, Blackmagic Design brings real-time 8K accelerated editing with the full power of the CPU and multiple GPUs, effects and color correction in ProRes 4444.
For its part, Avid It supports up to six HDX cards, resulting in a higher number of I/O requests and voice tracks, and twice the DSP processing than any other system can achieve in Pro Tools.
Cinema 4D by Maxon You're seeing 20 percent faster GPU rendering performance when compared to a Windows workstation optimized with three NVIDIA Quadro RTX 8000 graphics cards.
Pro Display XDR, the largest Retina display
Featuring a 32-inch LCD panel with a 6,016 x 3,384 Retina 6K resolution of over 20 million pixels, the new Pro Display With a 10-bit Wide Color Gamut (P3) displaying over 1 billion colors, professionals will enjoy a more realistic viewing experience, essential for video and photo editing, 3D animation, and color grading. The Pro Display
To manage light reflections, the Pro Display
To better reflect what the eye can see in the real world, the Pro Display XDR takes high dynamic range to a whole new level. The Pro Display With an advanced thermal system that uses its aluminum grille structure as a heat sink, the Pro Display XDR is capable of sustaining 1,000 nits of full-screen brightness indefinitely, something previously impossible at this recommended retail price. And with an incredible 1,000,000:1 contrast, users will enjoy unbeatable viewing quality – from the brightest specular highlights to super-dark blacks and everything in between.
