Georgiou joins Discovery from Lagardère Sports and Entertainment, where he has served as CEO and Chief Operating Officer since 2014.

Discovery has announced the appointment of Andrew Georgiou as new president of Eurosport y Global Sports Rights & Sports Marketing Solutions of the company. Georgiou joins Discovery from Lagardère Sports and Entertainment, where he has served as CEO and Chief Operating Officer since 2014.

In this newly created role, Georgiou will drive the continued growth of Eurosport, the leading sports platform across Europe and the home of the Olympic Games on the European continent. He will also coordinate the Discovery group's sports rights acquisitions and represent Discovery before rights owners, federations and agencies. Additionally, Georgiou will develop and help execute a strategy that makes the best use of Discovery's premium sports portfolio to create unique solutions for marketers around the world.

Andrew Georgiou will report to JB Perrette, Chairman and CEO of Discovery International, said: "Andrew is an impressive leader with a strong commercial and business passion and a great track record. He is the ideal person to lead the continued expansion of Eurosport and to help find new ways to bring Discovery's unrivaled multi-screen capabilities and assets to rights holders and marketers around the world. Georgiou has spent a 13-year career at Lagardère Sports and Entertainment, which he joined in 2006 as Chief Operating Officer and later as CEO of its Asia division, before rising to the role of Global CEO in 2014. He has led a radical change at the agency, integrating more than 10 sports and marketing agencies to become an integrated global leader in sports and marketing. Prior to joining Lagardère, Georgiou was CEO of the PGA TOUR in Australasia.

Andrew Georgiou will take up his new role in the autumn. While he will continue to help Lagardère SCA finalize its previously announced sale of Lagardère Sports and Entertainment.
