The IBC 2019 International Honour for Excellence Award It will be this time for Andy Serkis, the director, producer and actor better known today for his papers for the capture of movement. Among them are Gollum, Supreme Leader Snoke, King Kong and César de The planet of the apes.
Michael Crimp, CEO of IBC, highlights that "IBC is where technology, crafts and the business of the media industry join. The International Honour for Excellence has a long history to recognize those who have transformed our creative vision. Andy Serkis has achieved this bringing an extraordinary humanity to the characters generated by computer."
Serkis was born in England in 1964 and wanted to be an artist before becoming an actor, working on theater and television. Today he is also a producer and director, with his London company Imaginary studios Producing Mowgli last year, Legend of the Jungle, a new interpretation of Kipling's originals adapted by Serkis, in which he also participated as Baloo The Bear co -star with Bagheera by Christian Bale.
Its greatest achievement, however, is to change the mere capture of movement for CGI to a combination of technology and the interpretive ability of the actor to create the fidelity of the performance in every detail. This is what gives him a genuine humanity: his performance as César in the three films of El Planeta de los Apes earned him a nomination in functions of the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
Serkis acknowledges feeling “incredibly honored to have been chosen as the winner of this year's prestigious IBC Prize. I want to share this appreciation with the phenomenal legions of creative artists, visionaries and pioneers with whom I have been lucky enough to work on this trip through the stories of the next generation”.
The 2019 IBC Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, September 15 at 6.30 pm at the RAI Auditorium in Amsterdam.
