Eugenio Fontán, new general director of Cooperation with the State and the EU in the Community of Madrid
With extensive experience in the telecommunications and aerospace sectors, Fontán will be in charge of coordinating the opportunity that Europe and the State offer to the Madrid industry.
The Governing Council of the Community of Madrid has appointed Eugenio Fontán Oñate as General Director of Cooperation with the State and the European Union.
The government of Diaz Ayuso It will thus have this new General Directorate that intends not to miss the opportunities that Europe and the State offer for the Madrid industry, at a time of authentic digital transformation of the industrial sector at a global level.
With a professional activity always linked to the telecommunications and aerospace sector, Fontán (Madrid, 1956) is a Telecommunications Engineer from the Higher Technical School of Telecommunications Engineers of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Until now, he has been managing director of the Aerospace Cluster of the Community of Madrid, representative of the Community of Madrid in the NEREUS network of European regions with industry and services related to space and member of the project selection committee of the ESA-BIC Community of Madrid. During recent years he has coordinated several European H2020 projects focused on innovation.
In addition, he has been Dean-President of the Official College of Telecommunications Engineers from May 2010 to July 2018 and President of the Spanish Association of Telecommunications Engineers until March 2019.
Previously, he was Chief Engineer of the SER network, CEO of Unión Ibérica de Radio and General Director of the Telecommunications unit of Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC), in addition to being a member of the Board of Directors of Xfera and several Spanish companies that manufacture telecommunications equipment.
