Liz Corbin, with more than 18 years of experience at the BBC in the field of television and digital journalism, will be the new deputy director of media and information at the European Broadcasting Union (EBU/EBU) starting January 2020.

Liz began her career as a journalist at the BBC News Channel and progressed quickly through the corporation. He has worked in a wide variety of roles, including that of BBC News at Six and Ten (the most watched evening news programs in the UK) and as a senior political producer, where she covered British politics at the highest level. Prior to 2017, Liz spent four years as an editor at the BBC's Singapore Bureau, where she launched its integrated television and digital newsroom. Upon her return to London she was editor of BBC Reality Check, a multi-platform brand whose aim is to reduce the impact of misinformation and “fake news”.

Liz will play a key role in the EBU's Media Department as Deputy Director of Media and Head of News, bringing her considerable public service credentials and experience of the commercial and audience challenges faced by broadcasters. Liz has a reputation as an inspirational leader who has pioneered schemes to recruit and retain diverse teams and on-air talent.

"I am delighted to join the EBU as impartial, independent and high-quality journalism faces new challenges and opportunities. With audience habits constantly changing, the question of how public service media organizations respond is seen as an existential question. It demands maximum creativity and the ability to adapt and create new universal services for all audiences. At the same time, misinformation is dramatically skewing public attitudes towards news, and I look forward to working with the EBU and its members to reduce its impact. As a journalist, I am passionate about my support of public service news, so joining the EBU, which has these values at its heart, is the perfect solution,” he said.

Jean Philip De Tender, director of media at the EBU, added: "This is a significant appointment for the EBU. Liz has a wealth of experience in managing evolving news agendas across a variety of portfolios and her understanding of the core values of public service broadcasting is unmatched. News is an important part of the EBU's output, something we value and value for its impact on democratic societies and its ability to accurately reflect the disparate lives of our many audiences. The incredible track record of Liz at the BBC – a member of the EBU – gives you an unprecedented understanding of the benefits of public service media and the challenges we face in an ever-evolving media landscape, with Liz on board, I have every confidence that we will meet those challenges head-on.”

Jeff Dubin, the current EBU News Chief, will leave the EBU after nearly thirty years of service.
