European Union films represent 14% of all unique titles in the 79 non-European SVOD catalogs studied in a report by the European Audiovisual Observatory.

He European Audiovisual Observatory has analyzed a study on 79 SVOD services, with its 21 catalogues, all over the world. The objective of this analysis is to determine the market for European Union films in SVOD beyond the EU borders. This report has been approved by program Creative Europe of the European Union.

The majority of EU films found on SVOD services around the world are produced in the EU-5. The UK is by far the largest supplier of films to the EU, with 38% of all EU single titles, followed by France with 18%, Germany with 12%, Italy with 11% and Spain with 6%. Together, these five countries represent 85% of all unique EU film titles available on SVOD outside Europe in the sample catalogs studied.

However, countries producing medium-sized films, with diversified filmographies (Belgium, Netherlands, Austria), special genres (for example, Nordic film noir: Sweden, Denmark, Finland) or anglophone (Ireland), also manage to export films outside Europe. These 7 countries represent 11% of all unique movie titles found in the SVOD catalogs analyzed.

With 7,450 unique film titles, EU film titles represent the 14% of movie titles offered in the 79 catalogs SVOD studied.

Regions

By regions, North America (16 services) and China (3 services) oroffer the largest number of unique film titles in the Union European, with 4,095 and 2,585 unique titles from the European Union, respectively. Russia (3 services) and Australia and New Zealand (8 services) are other regions with a higher than average number of unique film titles in the EU, with 1,813 and 1,644 unique titles respectively.

The largest buyer of film titles in the EU is Amazon, with 3,281 unique titles across its 14 country catalogs, followed by Netflix, with 1,816 unique titles in its 20 catalogs.

The Russian service Ivi and the three Chinese services Youku, iQiyi, Tencent Video were the largest buyers of EU films.

The Indian service Eros Now, the Canadian service Sundance Now, Viu (6 countries) and CBS All Access, for their part, include between 31 and 3 unique EU film titles in their catalogues.
