Rafa Russo shoots the Spanish-Uruguayan co-production 'The Year of Fury'

Russo returns to get behind the camera after a long season in which he has also worked as a scriptwriter for films such as 'Rain on the Shoes', 'Julia's Decision' or 'Remember Me'.

Rafa Russo (Love in self defense) is immersed in the filming of The year of fury, a Spanish-Uruguayan co-production, set in the year preceding the military coup d'état in Uruguay in 1973.

The film stars Alberto Amman (Cell 211, Narcos), Joaquín Furriel (One Hundred Years of Forgiveness, The Orca Lighthouse), Daniel Grao (The blood tree, Giants), Martina Gusman (The world of Mateo, The Marginal), Sara Sálamo (Costa del Sol Brigade, Everyone knows it), Paula Cancio (Happy 140th, The Marginal), Miguel Ángel Sola (The Last Suit, The Sunday Sickness) and also has the special collaboration of Maribel Verdú (Snow White, Crime Wave).

And he returns with a film that in his words "is not so much a film about the military dictatorship as a story of love, friendship and betrayal during the incipient military dictatorship. It is a story basically about human dignity. And is love a possible refuge in the face of so much ignominy?"

Filming will take place in various locations in Uruguay and Madrid.

The Year of Fury, is produced on the Spanish side by Gona Filming y Aliwood Mediterranean Productions; and on the Uruguayan production side, Cimarron. It also has the participation of RTVE, the Ministry of Culture (ICAA) and the Ibermedia Program. Filmax will be the distributor responsible for the premiere in Spain.

Montevideo 1972

In the turbulent Montevideo of 1972, while the country falls irrevocably towards the precipice of dictatorship, Diego and Leonardo, two scriptwriters of a well-known television comedy show, struggle to maintain their integrity in the face of pressure from their superiors to tone down their biting political satires and avoid offending the senior military who are taking control of the country.

At the same time, on the side of the oppressors, Rojas, an army lieutenant who has been pressured to torture militants or sympathizers of the Tupamaros guerrilla, exorcises his demons with Susana, a prostitute with whom he finds a kind of emotional refuge from his strong feeling of guilt.
