The Goya 2020, a carbon-neutral gala

The Film Academy and the Malaga City Council sign their commitment to reduce and offset the carbon footprint of the Goya ceremony, which will be held in the Andalusian city on January 25.

The Film Academy has introduced an important novelty in the 34th edition of the Goya Awards, to turn the awards gala into a carbon neutral event. The institution and the Malaga City Council sign their commitment to the fight against climate change by calculating, reducing and offsetting the carbon footprint of the Goya ceremony, which will be held in the Andalusian city on January 25.

He carbon footprint analysis proposed will consider all greenhouse gas emissions caused directly and indirectly by the organization and development of this event. Along these lines, important issues such as the gala's energy consumption, guest transportation, accommodation, catering... actions whose associated emissions generate a measurable impact will be analyzed.

In addition to calculating the impact generated through greenhouse gas emissions, the project will allocate the necessary means to reduce the environmental impact and compensate for those emissions whose impact cannot be minimized or avoided.

The consulting firm responsible for preparing this study and advising on minimizing the environmental impact of the ceremony will be from Malaga. Green Globe Sustainability and Environmental Projects, a reference company in the sector.

This study marks a starting point to improve year after year in the organization of the most important event in Spanish cinema. In addition, it joins the work that the Malaga City Council is doing for environmental sustainability in the city, with initiatives such as the European Green Screen project, in which it participates through Promálaga, which has the objective of improving the sustainability of the audiovisual sector and reducing emissions from audiovisual productions.
