The Digital 6000 series wireless microphones will now allow the number of channels to be increased within a given frequency window, at the cost of a slight reduction in the audio frequency response and RF range.

The UHF spectrum used by program and special event delivery service providers, better known as PMSE (Programme Making and Special Events), is increasingly smaller. To help them, Sennheiser has launched the modo Link Density in your serie Digital 6000 of wireless microphones.

The new Link Density (LD) mode significantly increases the number of wireless links which can be used in a saturated radio frequency spectrum. While the Long Range transmission mode, the standard mode of the Digital 6000 series, operates with a channel separation of 400 kHz to ensure the best audio and RF performance, the LD mode reduces the separation by half, i.e. 200 kHz.

This means that In Europe, up to 40 links can be accommodated in a channel with 8 MHz bandwidth, and even 30 links on a 6 MHz TV channel in the United States, which is somewhat narrower.

Options for technicians

LD mode uses the new SePAC codec (Sennheiser Performance Audio Codec) designed by Sennheiser developers in order to establish a new balance between the number of channels, on the one hand, and radio frequency and audio performance, on the other hand.

“LD mode gives production companies the choice they didn't have before,” adds Vollmers. "Now they will be able to increase the number of channels, accepting in exchange a slight decrease in the audio frequency response and RF range. It can be an excellent solution in case of having a very limited spectrum."

The new LD mode is now available through a firmware update that can be download for free from this site. It can be used with any of the Digital 6000 systems currently available on the market, with the exception of the EK 6042 camera receiver, which does not support LD mode.
