Univision uses DPA microphones in its main programs

DPA has been part not only of 'Sábado Gigante', but also of other high-profile Univision broadcasts, such as the Latin Grammys, the telenovela 'La Reina' and its prime-time news program 'Noticiero Univisión'.

For more than two decades and in his capacity as audio supervisor, Jose Gonzales has been responsible for capturing crystal clear sound for several of the programs broadcast by Univision, the main Spanish-language television network in America. Gonzáles has witnessed many technological advances. However, what has remained constant over that period is his use of microphones DPA.

Gonzáles began using DPA microphones to Giant Saturday, Univision's hit show. “Don Francisco, the host of Sábado Gigante, was very demanding when it came to sound,” says Gonzáles. "We compared them to other brands and the decision to go with the DPAs was always unanimous; they are smaller and sound and look better. We immediately started using d:facto Vocal microphones for the talent. We also chose headset microphones for the various contestants and for the audience participations. We have been using DPA ever since. Today, about 95 percent of our microphones are DPA."

Gonzáles entrusts most of the content broadcast by Univisión to 4000 Series Microphones of DPA, including lavalier Heavy Duty 4661, he 4018 d:facto Vocal and also the headset microphones 4066 y 6066 CORE. “DPA is the best option for issuance in general,” continues Gonzáles. "In the studio, they are very consistent and clear, they are easily disguised and deliver fantastic sound quality. In addition, they are very resistant, reliable and very durable microphones. DPA has sonic consistency and, when you are mixing the sound of all the microphones at the same time, the sound is even. I do not perceive a difference in either the levels or the quality."

In Galavision, Univision's sister network, Gonzáles uses 24 headset microphones DPA 6066 for the reality show falling in love, and rent instrumental microphones DPA 4099 for drums and percussion, which have received excellent comments from the program's production team. Univision's most recent program, Look who's dancing! (also known as MQB), an adaptation of Dancing with the Stars, also recently began using DPA microphones for the show's judges and competitors.

Since many of Univision's broadcasts are done from outside, Gonzáles is also very satisfied with the performance of the DPA microphones under the elements. “They are very resistant to adverse weather conditions, especially rain and humidity,” he adds. “DPA microphones are also less sensitive to wind; I never get complaints from staff who work with them outdoors.”

Gonzáles points out that the quality of DPA's products and service are among the main reasons why he continues to support the brand. “We have enjoyed a long and wonderful relationship with DPA,” he says. “It's amazing to work with Leonardo Romero; está disponible siempre y responde prontamente con una solución o recomendación experta.
