RSI chooses Ross Camera Motion systems to increase efficiency and quality
Swiss television improves the visual dynamism of its programs with two Furio SE on rails around the set and two CamBot 600XY pedestals.
The Italian-speaking Swiss radio and television (RSI), a public broadcaster based in Lugano that produces television and radio content for the Italian-speaking Swiss population, began a process of renovating its studios in 2018 to increase the efficiency and quality of its productions.
A subsidiary of SRG SSR (the Swiss Broadcasting Society) RSI reaches around 8% of Switzerland's 8.65 million inhabitants daily.
As part of the project, RSI created a innovative studio design with several mobile sets, allowing the set to dynamically change between the different segments. From local to international news, weather to sports, sets are constantly swapped during broadcasts.
To create the desired dynamic look, RSI contacted Miguel Declerck, business development director of Ross Camera Motion Systems. "Moving desks posed some challenges in terms of the type of robots that could be used on the set floor. After extensive brainstorming with RSI, we proposed a hybrid solution that consisted of two Furio SE on rails embedded around the set to provide spectacular panoramas up to a 2m20 camera point of view, and two pedestals of CamBot 600XY free movement within the set for close-ups. The result is one of the best mixed studies Fury-CamBot, both aesthetically and in terms of workflow efficiency,” Declerck highlights.
According to Paolo Di Casola, COO of RSI, there were several reasons for choosing Ross. "We have an innovative studio with tables that move dynamically around the studio depending on the news being covered. Ross Video was very helpful in brainstorming how robotic cameras could interact with these desks and create the most dynamic look possible."
After two years of almost constant use, RSI remains impressed with the final solution, as Di Casola comments. "Despite the obvious complexity at the outset, we are delighted with the long-term reliability of the products and our continued ability to add functionality through software updates. The support provided by Ross throughout this project has been instrumental in its success, and we are incredibly pleased."
