The Weird Market festival awards 'Carne', 'Mascot' and 'Já-fólkið (Yes-People)' as best short films

In the projects section, 'He ran with his comrade' by Genís Rigol (Movistar+ Short Project Award), 'Gylt' by Tequila Works (RTVE Award for the most innovative video game) and 'Relicta' by Mighty Polygon (RTVE Award for the most innovative VR video game) stand out.

Weird Market y 3D Wire Fest has closed its 12th edition with a list of winners where nine projects and six short films in competition have been awarded with their various recognitions. In it cinematographic section, the Spanish-Brazilian work Carne and the korean Mascot They have received the highest distinctions from the jury in the national and international sections; while for the Icelandic The Yes-People has gone to the Best European Short Award.

For his part, the public has chosen the Portuguese The Peculiar Crime of the Strange Mr. Jacinto and the Spanish Roberto as the most outstanding films of their respective competitions (International and National, respectively).

In regards to the call for projects It should be noted that He ran alongside his comrade has won the Movistar+ Short Project Award, while A cult has achieved the RTVE Award for the most innovative video game; Abandoned For its part, it has won the version for VR projects of this latest award. In 2020, the winners add a new distinction, the RTVE Weird Plus Video Game Award, which was awarded in its first edition in Alt254.

The vote of the public attending the screenings at La Cárcel Segovia Creation Center has declared the Portuguese stop motion short as the winner The Peculiar Crime of the Strange Mr. Jacinto by Bruno Caetano (International) and Roberto, debut feature by Carmen Córdoba (Nacional). Two of the 43 productions that made up the official section and that represented 24 different countries from America, Asia, Europe and Oceania.

Award-winning projects

The second of the fundamental axes of Weird Market is the call for projects. In 2020 there were un total of 203 selected in catalog, of which nine make up his track record focused, in this section, on short film projects, series, webseries and video games.

Además, la obra se estrenará oficialmente en la edición 2021 o 2022 de este mercado.

Por su parte, RTVE entrega tres distinciones. La dirigida a la propuesta más innovadora de videojuego que ha sido para A cult de Tequila Works; mientras que el proyecto de videojuego VR más innovador es para Abandoned by Mighty Polygon. Regarding the call for online animation series projects with Átomo Network as the main collaborator, the Átomo Grand Prix for the best web series presented is the Argentine Quena touch (broken people), by Gabriel Lucero.

The other two recognitions are the Atomic Robot Award for the Mexican My f#%@ family, by Ricardo Abraham (Ríe Animation), and the Átomo Network Award for the French Love has its networks, by Cécile Rousset, Romain Blanc-Tailleur and Adrienne Nowak (Darjeeling Productions).

Weird Market thus closes with its winners, an edition that has combined the in-person part with the virtual part in a hybrid format, managing to maintain its commitment to the sector and the public, both physical and online.
