Ideal Systems produces on the cloud throughout Asia with connectivity solutions from Dejero
The cloud pop-up matches of the Malaysia Football League's latest live production will benefit from Dejero's smart mixing technology.
Dejero is providing the company Ideal Systems and its live production division, Ideal Live, the robust connectivity necessary to produce on the cloud High-quality live coverage of major events.
Among other events, it is providing live coverage of different matches of the 2020 Malaysia Football League (MFL) season from geographically dispersed stadiums throughout Malaysia, with Dejero EnGo mobile transmitters at the center of production connectivity to the cloud.
Intelligent mixing technology
EnGo uses Emmy Award-winning smart mixing technology that simultaneously aggregates multiple wired and wireless IP connections from multiple sources to form one virtual “network of networks”, improving the reliability of connection routes, expanding coverage and offering greater bandwidth.
Updesh Singh, Chief Technology Officer, Southeast Asia, Ideal Systems Group, notes that “Dejero's EnGo not only offers great value to news broadcasters and first responders, but is also a viable alternative to satellite connections or to fully rely on national sports coverage.”
“With our implementation at the MFL and other live events, we have proven that it provides the quality and resilience necessary for any type of remote production with even greater flexibility than traditional configurations,” he adds.
Dejero EnGo is a key component of the light flight that Ideal Systems typically deploys in MFL stadiums. These flight kits can be configured and ready for broadcast in 90 minutes. For each match there are up to six fixed cameras placed around the pitch to cover different camera shots, along with cameras for talent conducting interviews in and around the stadiums.
With a fast, one-button startup time, an easy-to-navigate user interface, and automated configurations that adapt to available bandwidth, Dejero EnGo mobile transmitters are trusted for these multi-camera setups, and to send high-quality, low-latency video to the cloud by combining multiple network connections in real time.
Fintan Mc Kiernan, CEO of Ideal Systems South East Asia, highlights that "we have been using Dejero technology for our MFL coverage since 2018 and for many other live events before that. Unlike the very recent initiatives that companies have taken in reaction to the pandemic, we have been implementing cloud-based remote production and other disruptive technologies for some time, driven by the desire to work smarter and optimize our clients' budgets."
With the EnGo transmitter's integrated global modems, wireless services global roaming connectivity, swappable SIM modules and an internal battery, Ideal Live doesn't have to rely on a venue's internet or power, or satellite or fiber connectivity to achieve the high-quality results expected from the MFL.
"EnGo allows us to access up to 6 different networks to ensure we have reliable connectivity; whether we are in a rural stadium where cellular networks can be spotty, or in Kuala Lumpur where local networks can become very congested with tens of thousands of fans using their smartphones during a match. Plus, the EnGo is rugged enough to perform just as well in the pouring rain of a monsoon as it does in the scorching temperatures and high humidity we often experience in Asia," adds Singh.
Sofiyan Neo, director of media and creative content at Ideal Systems, and head of Ideal Live, acknowledges that "it is technological innovators like Dejero who have helped us change the mindset of companies that previously could feel safer relying on traditional technologies. We have reduced production costs and resources significantly for our clients by not having to depend on a DSNG truck, heavy production equipment or the Internet at a given location for connectivity, thanks to Dejero's smart mix technology. We have gradually taken the “70 to 80 percent of our workflow goes to the cloud and we have proven that the same level of high-quality live streaming can be achieved remotely from anywhere.”
“We also have to congratulate Dejero for the level of support they have provided from the beginning – to receive incredible 24/7 remote support to complement the local support of a North American company that is located so far away from us in distance and time zones, has inspired and fueled the confidence of our engineers in Asia to go further with disruptive technology,” concludes Mc Kiernan.
