Caracol Television is mourning the death of Luis Calle

The next edition of the 4K HDR Summit, from November 17 to 20, 2021, will pay tribute to the vice president of operations, news and sports of Caracol Televisión who died in Colombia.

The broadcast industry in Latin America is mourning the death of the journalist Luis Calle, vice president of operations, news and sports at Snail Television, who died on Saturday in Colombia.

The 4K HDR Summit, which will celebrate its seventh edition from November 17 to 20, 2021, will pay tribute to journalist Luis Calle. This was announced today Ricardo Medina, CEO of Medina Media Events, organizer of the event, who worked under Luis Calle as a correspondent in Spain and special envoy to conflicts such as Sarajevo and Rwanda, in the 90s.

Luis Calle, who studied Journalism and Audiovisual Production at Boston University, has been a leader in Hispanic television journalism in the United States for the last thirty years, where he was News Director of Univision, Telemundo and Vice President of News at CBS-Telenoticias.

The last 17 years of his career were dedicated to television in his native Colombia, on RCN and on Caracol TV, a network in which he had been Vice President since 2012 and in which he promoted the modernization processes that have led the network to become a benchmark in Latin America for fiction productions in Ultra High Definition (UHD), which have been presented on several occasions at the 4K HDR Summit.

Furthermore, in 2005, Calle launched the Latin American Information Alliance, which every day offers a news exchange between 22 of the main private television networks in Latin America and the United States.

Gonzalo Cordoba, president of Caracol TV, has highlighted that "there are many lessons that Luis left to those of us who were fortunate enough to have him at our side as a great teacher. There are countless journalists who have trained with him since he returned to the country after a successful career in several international networks. Therefore, we are aware of the challenge and commitment we have to maintain his legacy. Professionally, a comprehensive structure, fine criteria and a clear awareness of duty and decency."
