The CEOE appoints Enrique Cerezo president of its Culture and Sports Commission

The confederation recognizes the multidisciplinary work of Enrique Cerezo, placing him as a representative of two sectors in which he has extensive experience.

The Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) has appointed Enrique Cerezo president of his newly founded Culture and Sports Commission. An appointment with which the organization recognizes the strategic importance of culture and sport and its relevance as an industrial engine.

The appointment was made during the CEOE Board of Directors held this February 17 at the proposal Antonio Garamendi, president of the confederation, who has highlighted the excellent professional career of Enrique Cerezo and his deep knowledge of the cultural and creative industries and the sports industry.

With this appointment, the CEOE distinguishes the multidisciplinary work of Enrique Cerezo in the fields of Culture and Sports as a wide expert in both sectors. In the field of culture, he has a long history as a film producer and distributor, recovering Spanish film heritage, and representing audiovisual producers since the presidency of EGEDA, a position from which he defends and promotes the Ibero-American audiovisual industry through initiatives such as the José María Forqué Awards and the Platinum Ibero-American Film Awards. For his extensive experience and contribution to the sector, he was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts from the Ministry of Culture in 2009.

In the sporting field, Enrique Cerezo has developed a key participation in Club Atlético de Madrid, one of the most renowned professional football teams internationally. Since the beginning of his presidency in 2003, the team has managed to lift the Spanish League trophy, a Copa del Rey, a Spanish Super Cup, three UEFA Europa League tournaments and three European Super Cups, having reached the final of the Champions League on two occasions.

Lastly, it should be noted that the contribution of sector cultural al Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is located in the 3,4%, considering the set of activities linked to intellectual property, according to the 2019 Yearbook of Cultural Statistics, which also estimates the volume of cultural employment at 710,200 people during that year. For its part, Sports contributes to GDP up to 3,3% according to the Thermometer of the sports ecosystem in Spain carried out by the consulting firm PwC, which also highlights the more than 400,000 jobs generated by this industry.
