Culture and Sports creates the National Award for Cinematographic and Audiovisual Heritage
He Ministry of Culture and Sports has given the green light to the creation of the new National Award for Cinematographic and Audiovisual Heritage and, on the other hand, to the review of the endowment of some National Awards in their different modalities.
With the creation of the National Award for Cinematographic and Audiovisual Heritage, we want to highlight the work of people, institutions and organizations that have developed or are developing initiatives and projects for the recovery, conservation and dissemination of cinematographic and audiovisual heritage.
The Institutional Declaration of Spanish Cinema Day, on October 6, by the Council of Ministers, as well as the legislative initiatives that are currently being processed, especially the new Law on Cinema and Audiovisual Culture, show the current interest in the matter and the opportunity to recognize the work of people and institutions that have contributed and contribute to the recovery and safeguarding of this heritage.
The recognition by the United Nations General Assembly at its 33rd General Assembly of October 27 as World Audiovisual Heritage Day and the recommendations of the European Union on preservation and online accessibility to cinematographic and audiovisual heritage, are some of the initiatives that have also been taken into account for the creation of this National Award.
In addition to the creation of the new award, Culture and Sports has increased the amount of the National Awards for Spanish Literature, the National Awards for Literature, the History of Spain, the Best Translation, the Work of a Translator, Cultural Journalism, Comics and Illustration. The National Awards for the Best Cultural Editorial Work and the Promotion of Reading, which to date have been honorary, also receive a 30,000 euro financial award.
