The new Star brand will offer films and series aimed at adults from the Disney Television Studios, FX, 20th Century Studios or 20th Television factories.

Star on Disney+

While Disney+ It already houses a large number of titles aimed at children and young people from Marvel, Pixar or Star Wars, now it is launching the new brand, Star, in which it will offer films and series aimed at adults from the Disney Television Studios, FX, 20th Century Studios or 20th Television factories.

The sixth brand under the Disney+ banner, after Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and Nat Geo, is now available on the streaming platform in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. The new brand of general entertainment content is proposed as a new channel within the user's Disney+ account alongside the existing options.

It should be noted, on the other hand, that Disney is the owner of Hulu, in addition to Fox. Hulu is behind series like The Handmaid’s Tale y Love, Victor, authentic in the US, but not available in the UK. Hulu is bundled with Disney+ in the US, so this new UK bundle will be a big move for non-US customers.

Disney also has a huge catalog of content thanks to the purchase of Fox. Fox is known for series like Fargo, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Americans y Atlanta, while 20th Century Studios has produced films such as Avatar, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Darkest Hour y X-Men, among other box office hits.

With the more mature content come some changes, since in addition to the slight increase in price, the platform adds parental controls in order to block certain profiles. Controls are automatically set to 14+, but can be increased to 18+.

Disney+ subscribers in Eastern Europe, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea will be able to access Star at a later date later in 2021, while in Latin America, Disney will launch Star+ as an independent streaming service that will offer a series of live sports coverage.

Rebecca Campbell, president of international and direct-to-consumer operations for The Walt Disney Company, said that “with the addition of Star, we are creating even more value for consumers by adding an incredible range of high-quality movies and series for families, older teens and adults, driven by the acquisition of 21st Century Fox and our creative studios.”
