The new Televisa-Univision conglomerate emerges with a unique position for market opportunity aimed at Spanish speakers around the world.

Televisa Group y Univision Holdings has closed this Tuesday, April 13, an agreement to combine your assets thus creating a Spanish-speaking media giant that will serve millions of users.

The new group seeks to serve the potential market of 600 million Spanish speakers world, of which 128 million are Mexican and 61 million live in the United States.

The contents that both companies add cover more than 300,000 hours of programming, becoming the largest repository of content and intellectual property in Spanish on the planet.

Televisa would contribute approximately $4.8 billion in content and Univision will contribute $3 billion in cash, $1.5 billion in own stock and $300 million from other sources.

The new Televisa-Univision will set its sights on the Spanish streaming market, for which it will launch a joint platform with strategic partners such as SoftBank, Google and The Raine Group as well as the ForgeLight investment fund that will contribute $1 billion to the operation and join the group of current shareholders made up of ForgeLight itself, Searchlight, Liberty Global and Grupo Televisa.

A multimedia giant in Spanish

Emilio Azcarraga, executive president of the board of directors of Televisa, has highlighted that "with the scale that will result from the merger Televisa-Univision seeks a broad capacity to produce a substantially greater amount of content, especially in Mexico. This strategic combination generates significant value for the shareholders of both companies and will allow us to more efficiently reach all Spanish-speaking audiences with more of our programming."

For his part, the executive director of Univision, Wade Davis, has stressed that "this transformative combination brings together the leading network serving Spanish-language audiences in the United States with the leading media platform in Mexico powered by the most powerful Spanish-language content engine in the world. Televisa-Univision will emerge as the leading global Spanish-language multimedia company, uniquely positioned to capture the important market opportunity for Spanish speakers around the world."
