The series Hulu Japanese originals Iki wo Hisomete has been filmed with the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 camera Blackmagic Design. DaVinci Resolve Studio was also used for post-production.

Iki wo Hisomete is a eight episode series directed by award-winning Japanese director Ryutaro Nakagawa and starring some of the country's most important actors. The drama, broadcast since April 23, shows the lives and relationships of people living near the Tama River during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

The model Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro G2 It was used as the main camera for the series. The post-production manager highlights the fast audio and video synchronization as one of the advantages of the Blackmagic Design software: "DaVinci allows audio and images to be synchronized in one second if the timecode is correct. I asked the production team to integrate metadata, for example, the scene and the take number. Once I received the material, I synchronized it in the Media module of the program. This way, I could prepare everything for editing with a single click and start immediately, in turn reducing post-production expenses. In this sense, DaVinci is "Much more efficient than other non-linear editing programs."

SDR and HDR versions

Senzo, on the other hand, paid special attention to material processing in SDR y HDR, one of the production requirements. DaVinci, he says, rose to the occasion: "The director wanted to achieve the same tone as the images I posted on my Instagram account, which is to say quite matte and painterly. This doesn't require a lot of latitude, and I purposely reduced the level of detail so that it wouldn't be too noticeable. When I learned that we had to create a high dynamic range version, I didn't think it was essential. However, the result of the grading carried out with DaVinci surprised me.”

"The nuances I wanted to achieve were present, with more subtle details in the material captured by the G2 model. There are many scenes with the morning and evening sun, and they are very beautiful when viewed in HDR," concludes Senzo.
