Blackmagic Design - Yale Open Doors - URSA Mini Pro 12K

The prestigious Yale University, which is part of the Ivy League, has decided to use the URSA Mini Pro 12K camera from Blackmagic Design to shoot the video Yale Opens Doors and other promotional materials.

With the aim of publicizing great examples of university Gothic and neo-Gothic architecture, Yale University contacted the director B. Kelley (bRandom Media) and the producer Meghan Doherty to record images in 8K and 12K resolution of the different architectural elements that are part of the educational complex, placing emphasis on the famous doors and gates.

The video titled Yale Opens Doors was one of the 28 who were part of the project. This was filmed in 12K, and versions were created both in said resolution and in 8K y 4K, for the purpose of transmitting the images in a 11 meter wall with LED screens and offer various formats for different projection rooms. "Yale's Gothic architectural style is special and imposing. By filming at full resolution with the URSA Mini Pro 12K model, we were able to capture this majesty. It is extremely easy to work with the recorded material, and it is very useful to be able to obtain images in different resolutions from the same shot," said Kelley.

“Extraordinary” colorimetry

Images recorded for Yale were exhibited during the launch of the campaign at the beginning of October, which was carried out both in person and virtually. Likewise, they were used on the website that the university dedicated to fundraising, where various famous teachers and graduates addressed topics related to their fields of specialty.

"This shoot was a test to consider the benefits of filming in 12K resolution. It was very useful to be able to use different parts of an image without having to re-record in other formats. In addition, the camera has extraordinary colorimetry and is very easy to transport and configure. It was extremely easy to work with the Blackmagic RAW material, and we were able to adjust the unit to the client's different requirements without any inconvenience," concludes Kelley.
