Telemetrics underwater camera

The system features the Telemetrics PT-CP-S5 pan/tilt head operated with a Telemetrics robotic panel. Telemetrics' new PL-HOUL-S5 “pool housing” will also be used underwater at Tokyo 2020.

The underwater robotic camera system was designed and built especially for Olympic-sized swimming pools and water sporting events. Robotics and camera integration is easy to deploy and use, requiring only one cable Ethernet to connect with robotics systems. This will allow AP to fully control the camera system remotely (including shutter, focus, zoom...), as well as monitor the camera feed live from the remote camera control panel RCCP-M.

The single CAT7 also carries power for all underwater equipment, including the camera, as the system fully supports PoE connectivity.

Telemetrics underwater cameraThe high-quality images will be edited and captioned before being sent to AP members and customers around the world in real time (via the FTP functions of Sony mirrorless cameras). This new robotic camera system from Telemetrics, which includes a Weatherproof casing, will also be used to capture the imaginative opening and closing ceremonies from the top of the Tokyo Olympic Stadium.

The AP will employ six compact robotic camera systems Pan/Tilt PT-CP-S5 supporting Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras mounted on the Telemetrics PT-CP-S5 Pan/Tilt head inside a weather-resistant camera housing WP-HOU-A9 from Telemetrics. The PT-CP-S5 α9 Weatherproof P/T Head Package System with Remote Control has been developed for professional photographers looking to capture high-quality (24 MP) still photos for media and sporting events.

Michael Cuomo, vice president of Telemetrics, notes that “the system is easy to configure and allows you to capture unique images that would not be possible without this solution.” He adds that a single operator will use the RCCP-M panel to control multiple cameras simultaneously and have a complete live preview of all cameras. "These games are historic and there is only one chance to capture the action. Our robotics are designed to deliver results in even these most demanding applications. We are excited to see the images generated from this collaboration with the Associated Press."
