Canon EOS R-3

Thinking about professionals who work in sports, nature or action environments, Canon launches the new EOS R3, a camera that offers the speed of the famous EOS-1 series, with the innovation and versatility of the pioneering EOS R System.

With over 100 improvements over Canon's mirrorless and DSLR cameras, the result has been a camera that greatly simplifies workflows. With an innovative new 24.1 megapixel sensor, the EOS R3 provides an optimal balance between performance, resolution and speed.

Thanks to the new 24.1 megapixel back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor, it allows for extremely fast image acquisition and improved responsiveness. The powerful sensor almost completely eliminates distortion due to the rolling shutter effect and, by allowing fast shutter speeds, from 30 seconds to 1/64,000 of a second, helps sports photographers freeze the movement of the fastest subjects.

When using the electronic shutter, photographers will be able to shoot up to 30 frames per second (fps), in automatic exposure (AE) and AF tracking, even when shooting in RAW format, in addition to 15 fps and 3 fps shooting options. For the first time, the electronic shutter can also be used with both Canon and non-Canon flashes. Overcoming the traditional limitations of electronic shutters, Canon has introduced Flicker Detection as well as a high-frequency anti-flicker shooting mode to detect and correct flickering from light sources and prevent banding, color and exposure issues.

The high-speed performance of the EOS R3 is not limited to the number of frames per second, but also extends to focusing. Capable of focusing in just 0.03 seconds, the EOS R3 is the fastest EOS R series camera yet, perfect for capturing unexpected events in both sports and reporting.

EOS R3 Eye Control AF

Deep Learning

Featuring Dual Pixel CMOS AF II technology, the EOS R3 features an enhanced Deep Learning algorithm, offering AF tracking including human and animal eye, body and face detection, as well as head detection for humans, in both still photos and video. Designed with motorsports photographers in mind, Canon has also incorporated a vehicle tracking function, to expertly track motorcycles, as well as open cockpit racing cars, GT and rally cars, with the ability to prioritize either the vehicle or the driver's helmet.

Eye, face, head or body detection is now available in all AF modes, as well as a new Flexible Zone, which allows users to select the size and shape of the AF Zone area.

The EOS R3 sets a new standard for its ability to focus in light conditions as low as -7.5EV, making it one of the most capable low-light cameras available.

To maximize control of all these AF options, the EOS R3 offers three different ways to select AF points: the fast intelligent controller, the precise multi-controller and the instinctive Eye AF Control. Eye AF Control provides a more natural connection between camera and photographer. This intuitive and pioneering method of AF point selection moves the focus point to where the photographer is looking. When something unexpected happens, photographers can instinctively focus on the action with just a glance.

To enhance handheld recording capabilities and stable motion video production, the 5-axis Image Stabilizer, located on the camera body, can be combined with the Optical Image Stabilizer on select RF lenses to deliver industry-leading performance with up to 8 stops.

Connectivity

Thanks to a number of options for professional connectivity, including Bluetooth version 5.0 and Wi-Fi 5 GHz , the EOS R3 simplifies both workflows and connecting to a smartphone or Wi-Fi networks. Ideal for sports stadiums, the built-in Gigabit Ethernet connection allows for a high-speed wired connection. And, for when speed really matters, photographers can transmit images to their clients using FTP. Current users of the EOS R5 and EOS-1D X Mark III cameras can share network settings between these three models.

Users will be able to control the camera remotely from a mobile device, using the application Camera Connect Canon or by using the Browser Remote, through an Ethernet connection.

Browser Remote, a popular feature of the EOS-1D Users will also be able to use the application Mobile File Transfer (MFT) from Canon, a mobile application for professional photographers that transfers images via a mobile device to an FTP/FTPS/SFTP server.

Future enhancements to the app will include converting voice notes to text, which will make it easier for professionals to use. The EOS R3's new smartphone support accessory, the Smartphone Link AD-P1, allows users to mount their iOS or Android device on top of the Multifunction Shoe Adapter and easily transmit images via the new MFT app. Canon's Camera Connect app now allows EOS R3 firmware updates via mobile, a first for EOS cameras.

Video recording

The new Canon EOS R5 offers very powerful video capabilities, recording RAW videos with 6K 60p resolution, which is equivalent to 50% more detail than in 4K.

With the archivos RAW 6K CRM, exposure and white balance can be corrected after recording, to ensure impressive image reproduction. The 4K recordings up to 60p are upsampled from 6K, which guarantees the highest possible quality in 4K videos. Ideal for high-speed dynamic sports recording, the EOS R3 records video in 4K 120p to get impressive scenes slow motion with 4K resolution. It is now possible to record up to six hours of normal video or 1.5 hours at high frame rates up to 119.88/100p.

To reduce the file sizes and accelerate the speed of video workflows, you can record to CRM Lightweight or MP4 in All-I, IPB or the smaller IPB Lightweight option, allowing users to select from a wide range of bit rates, to meet their needs and storage requirements. Dual card slots, including a UHS-II SD slot and ultra-fast CFexpress, enable 6K RAW video recording and simultaneous recording to two MP4 cards, providing a backup for your most important recordings.

Canon's renowned Canon LOG 3 enables 10-bit internal recording, to achieve a wider dynamic range or 10-bit HDR PQ, which minimizes the need for editing or grading of the recording in post-production. Excellent for reporters on the go, the EOS R3 features a new Canon Multifunction Shoe, which is compatible with the new DM-E1D Directional Stereo Microphone, which uses digital processing, as well as the TEAC Tascam CA-XLR2d-C XLR adapter, which allows two-channel recording with professional XLR microphones.

electronic viewfinder

Delivering all the speed and familiarity of the EOS-1 series, Canon's new mirrorless camera uses a new electronic viewfinder that never goes dark, with a high quality of 5.76 million dots, low lag and a refresh rate of up to 120 fps at maximum resolution, for a viewing experience that rivals that of an optical viewfinder.

Along with the recently available optical viewfinder simulation (OVF) Vision Aid, the viewfinder offers richer tones and a wider dynamic range. Shutter lag can be reduced to a spectacular time of just 20 milliseconds, which is less than half that of a conventional camera, for virtually instantaneous capture from the moment the shutter is pressed. The new 4.1 million-dot vari-angle touch screen provides more detail than ever before and offers greater flexibility in selecting shooting angles thanks to its ability to tilt and rotate in a variety of different positions.

Combining the familiar ergonomics of EOS cameras with new controls and a host of new customizable options, including shutter sound via a volume control, the EOS R3 gives users familiar, yet advanced control. To save time when changing camera bodies, photographers will be able to easily copy and save custom settings to memory cards. By using the LP-E19 battery, as in the EOS-1D X Mark II and EOS-1D

The EOS R3 has a new lightweight magnesium body, resistant to dust and water, so it can be used even in the harshest conditions. Resistance to inclement weather is compatible with the use of Speedlite flashes, through its connection to the new AD-E1 Multifunction Shoe Adapter. The EOS R3 also powers the compact ST-E10 Speedlite Transmitter, via the Multifunction Hot Shoe, which provides photographers with the ability to remotely radio control multiple Speedlites at once.

Finally, note that Canon has also just presented the new RF 100-400 mm f/5,6-8 IS USM and the RF 16 mm f/2,8 STM, two new versatile and powerful RF lenses that add new focal lengths to Canon's range of optics.
