BBC Sport consolidates its commitment to virtual sets with Vizrt
Vizrt has helped a BBC Sport to convert a small space Media City in a virtual studio for all types of sports productions.
Using the new Viz Engine 4 of Vizrt with its integrated rendering pipeline Unreal Engine 4 y Fusion Keyer, along with 6-axis optical tracking system Mon-Sys StarTracker and set designs BK Design y Lightwell, the new set of BBC Sport has been offering content to UK viewers since April 2021.
John Murphy, creative director and head of sports graphics at the BBC, provides further details: "We had a small space in a Media City studio that wasn't being used as much as we would have liked, so we decided to convert it into a green screen space. With virtual design and rendering technology, we now have a studio that has 5 different presentation positions and can accommodate a wide variety of our sports production."

The study coordinated with technology Vizrt It has been used to produce different formats such as Match of the Day or to cover events of the size of the Euro 2020 oh go Olympics. The staging is completed with a wide selection of dynamic graphics to accompany the sports analysis, thus enhancing the visual narrative so appreciated by viewers.
The BBC Sport system benefits from Unreal Engine, which can be used as an additional rendering layer within the Vizrt-driven workflow. This feature improves the performance of the entire graphics system and expands the possibilities in the field of photorealism. All of this, as detailed Gerhard Lang, CTO of Vizrt, has been developed with an “operator-friendly workflow”, which is fundamental to the project.
