Orange launches Totem, a new infrastructure operator, in Spain and France
Orange takes another step to position itself as an operator of passive mobile infrastructures with the launch of its Totem division, a TowerCo that will operate in Spain and France offering sites, land, leases and rental contracts to third parties.
Stéphane Richard, CEO of Orange, highlights that "the launch of the Totem operation represents a key stage in our European infrastructure strategy. The creation of this entity allows us to highlight our passive mobile infrastructure, for which we have exceptional knowledge and experience. Making it available to other operators will allow us to optimize its use. Our commitment is to support Totem, both from a strategic and financial point of view, to make it an undisputed leader in the European market and to preserve these strategic assets as part of our vision. long-term industry. By maintaining control of our infrastructure, we are making an essential decision for our future growth.”
Nicolas Roy, general director of Totem Group, recognizes that this initiative "becomes a new actor in spatial planning in Europe. Launched first in France and Spain, thanks to its connectivity solutions and the sharing of its assets, Totem will create value for all actors: operators, lessors and agents in the real estate sector, communities, companies, etc. To achieve this, Totem's teams will rely on the excellence of its mobile infrastructures and detailed knowledge of the needs of its customers to bring connectivity everywhere, both in rural and urban environments.”
More than 26,000 locations
As of November 1, 2021, Totem's passive mobile infrastructure portfolio amounts to more than 26,000 locations in France and Spain, the two largest countries where Orange is present. Totem France manages 18,500 macro sites, of which 58% are towers, 30% are rooftops and 12% correspond to other implementations. Totem Spain manages 7,900 locations, distributed equally between towers and roofs.
At the time of its launch, Totem had a hundred employees in France, more than fifty in Spain and more than twenty in Totem Group. After France and Spain, it will study the possibility of integrating other mobile passive infrastructure assets of the Orange group in Europe that can create value.
Orange's European TowerCo will propose mutualization offers for their mobile infrastructures to operators; will market coverage solutions to better connect dense environments and venues such as stadiums, transportation areas, convention centers, corporate environments...
