'The good boss' will represent Spain in the 64th edition of the Ariel Awards

After winning 6 Goya awards, Fernando León de Aranoa's film The good boss, has been chosen by the Film Academy to represent Spain in the 64th edition of the Ariel Awards, in the Best Ibero-American Film section.

In a brief event held this Tuesday at the institution's headquarters Azucena Rodríguez, member of the Board of Directors of the Film Academy and representative of the institution in FIACINE (Ibero-American Federation of Film Academies); and the notary Federico Garayalde Niño announced that this story starring Javier Bardem will be the Spanish production competing this year for the awards promoted by the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences.

The effect of the Goya Awards was felt last weekend at the box office. The Good Patron, increasing its collection by almost 300% compared to the previous weekend, returning to the top of the list of the most viewed films from Friday, February 11 to Sunday, February 13.

Produced by Reposado PC and The Mediapro Studio, and directed by Fernando León de Aranoa, was the most awarded feature film of this edition of the Goya, winning in the categories of Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor for Javier Bardem, Best Screenplay, Best Editing and Best Music, up to a total of 6 figurines.

The film remains in theaters in 190 movie theaters, where since its premiere on October 15, it has been seen by around 600,000 spectators and has multiplied its initial collection by 9, an extraordinary result taking into account the post-pandemic scenario.

A track record of awards

The triumphant career of The Good Patron It began at the San Sebastián Film Festival where it was almost unanimously praised by critics. Chosen by the Film Academy to represent Spain at the Oscars in the category of Best International Film and selected in the “shortlist” of the 15 titles aspiring for nomination, León de Aranoa's latest work has not stopped receiving praise and nominations in recent months such as the three Feroz Awards for Best Comedy Film, Best Screenplay and Best Leading Actor in a film for Javier Bardem; two Forqué Awards for Best Feature Film and Best Male Performance for Bardem, and two Medals awarded by the Circle of Cinematographic Writers for Almudena Amor as New Actress and its protagonist Javier Bardem as Actor.

The film, with León de Aranoa himself and Jaume Roures as co-executive producers, the same team, together with Javier Bardem, that launched almost 20 years ago Mondays in the sun, will be the opening film of the next Miami Film Festival on March 4 and was also selected for the Palm Springs Festival.
