Bina Daigeler Y Pepo Ruiz Dorado ('Balenciaga' / Provision Title)

Bina Daigeler and Pepo Ruiz Dorado will recreate the designs of Cristóbal Balenciaga through the different times that this original story of Disney+ that will produce Moriarti Productions and Irusoin.

The costume designer Bina Daigeler, nominated for the Academy Award for the Real Action Film Mulán of Walt Disney Studios, and the Figurinist Pepo Ruiz Dorado have joined the creative team of the original Disney+series, Balenciaga (Provisional title). Daigeler and Ruiz Dorado will recreate the designs of Cristóbal Balenciaga through the different epochs that this original Disney++designs for the costume of the series.

Bina Daigeler, German based in Spain since the 80s, was the author of the costumes of Return, by Pedro Almodóvar, Only lovers survive, from Jim Jarmusch, Mrs. America, by Dahvi Waller, and has been a candidate for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design for Mulán. Balenciaga An ambitious Disney+ project in Spain, which has trusted this original series in Jose Mari Goenaga, Jon Garaño y Aitor Arregi, the trio of screenwriters and directors behind Flowers, great and The infinite trench, awarded, among others, with 12 Goya Awards and several awards at the San Sebastián Festival. Goenaga, Garaño and Figi are authors of the script, together with Lourdes Iglesias, and directors of this series that will begin to shoot soon in different locations from Spain and France.

The technical team of Balenciaga, produced by Xabier Berzosa, it is also formed by different professionals who have participated in previous films of the team and for which they have received numerous awards: Javier Agirre, Director of Photography (Goya by Great); Mikel Serrano, art director (Goya for Great and Akelarre); Iñaki Díez and Xanti Salvador, responsible for the sound (Goya for The infinite trench); Raúl López (Goya by Great) Y maial sarasua (Under the wolf's skin), Montators; and Laurent Dufreche (Goya for Great), Postproduction Coordinator.

The makeup artist completes Karmele Soler, who has worked with Icíar Bollaín, Ridley Scott and Pedro Almodóvar, and who received a Goya for The skin I live; and the hairdresser Sergio Pérez Berbel, six times nominated for the Awards of the Film Academy.

Bina Daigeler commented that “when we address the project of Balenciaga (Provisional title), I was excited about working in a Spanish series about the most iconic Spanish designer of all time. Its forms and volumes seemed beautiful and very modern. And now, after the process of creating the aftershocks, it has been very interesting to discover how I used fabrics and how you created a unique technique and style of pattern. I am very grateful to face such an important challenge with Pepo Ruiz Dorado because it allows us to exchange ideas, support and inspire each other. And, design the costumes of Balenciaga (Provisional title) It is like working in two series at the same time: on the one hand, there is the work behind the recreations of the Balenciaga designs and, on the other, the costumes of all the other characters that appear in this fiction ”.

For its part, Pepo Ruiz Dorado acknowledges that “I knew Balenciaga's work, but this project has allowed me Be the most artisan and reliable as possible and we are putting all the effort and love that the teacher deserves. ”

The series tells the history of Balenciaga that, through its natural talent, perseverance and smell for business, dared to challenge its social status as the son of a dressmaker and a fisherman, becoming one of the most relevant designers of all time. The series is a portrait about the search for identity against adversities and the challenge of social conventions over the years. Obsessed with finding their own style among the voices that judged their work and with the loneliness that entails being an artist, the public will witness the constant deconstruction and reconstruction of the great losses of this teacher: his life partner, his mother and his country.
