The Catalan companies GoldBee and Peekaboo Animation aspire to the Cartoon Tributes 2022 awards
In its sixteenth edition, the Cartoon Tributes They pay tribute to the most prominent actors in European animation in their three categories: Broadcaster, Investor/Distributor and Producer of the Year.
The winners will be chosen by vote by about 1,000 participants from 40 countries who will attend Cartoon Forum, the co-production forum for European television series that will be held in the French city of Toulouse, between September 19 and 22. The finalists come from Germany, Denmark, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and the Slovak Republic.
The public channels KiKA (Germany) and RTVS (Slovak Republic), the private television channel TF1 (France) and the multiplatform company GLITCH (Netherlands) are the candidates for the Broadcaster of the Year award.
For their part, the quartet of finalists in the category Investor/Distributor It is made up of the Danish DR Sales, the Italian KidsMe, the French Nathan Universe Jeunesse and the Spanish GoldBee. Based in Barcelona, GoldBee has a catalog with more than 2,500 half-hours of programs produced by companies such as ZDF, BBC, Corus Entertainment, France Télévisions and WDR, among others. Ziggy and the Zootram, Henrietta y Cleo & Cuquin These are some of the titles it represents internationally.
Lastly, the category of Producer of the Year It has two French nominations (Normaal and Watch Next Media), to which are added two other companies with a solid track record in co-production: Letko (Poland) and the Spanish Peekaboo Animation. Based in Barcelona, Peekaboo Animation is behind the production of renowned series such as I, Elvis Riboldi, My little heroes y Mironins. In addition, he will present his next project, Best Friends Forever… Stranded!, in the Toulouse pitching sessions.
Spanish animation at Cartoon Forum
In addition to the two nominations for the Cartoon Tributes, Spanish animation will have a prominent presence at Cartoon Forum with eight animated series projects selected at the event. Spain will also be the protagonist of the Spotlight that Cartoon Forum dedicates each year to a country or region with the aim of celebrating its creativity, originality and achievements in the world of animation.
At the event, and over three days, 80 new series projects, miniseries and unitary programs from 19 European countries will be presented in pitching sessions to professionals in the audiovisual sector from around the world, including broadcasters, distributors, investors, streaming platforms and potential co-producers, among others.
Produced by studios in Catalonia, Madrid, Tenerife and Valencia, the Spanish titles are mostly made in 2D animation. Five of these series are aimed at an audience of 6-9 years old: the Catalan ones Best Friends Forever… Stranded! (Peekaboo Animation), The Little Orchestra (Mago Audio Visual Production), Mervyn’s Album (Kick the Door Productions) y Zoey Oceans (Studio Kimchi), and the Tenerife Bertie's brain waves (In Atlantis Effect).
Among the selected Spanish series there are two works aimed at preschool audiences: My Brother is a T-Rez (Mr. Klaus Animation Studios) y Zebra with polka dots (Sygnatia), both presented by Madrid production companies. Spanish participation in Cartoon Forum completes First, a title for family audiences produced by the Valencian TV ON Producciones in co-production with Chile.
