Catalan OTT meeting at ISE 2023

The Catalan Corporation of Audiovisual Media (CCMA) within the framework of ISE 2023 in Barcelona has hosted the first meeting of the main Catalan OTT platforms, organized by the Audiovisual Cluster of Catalonia.

The desire for cooperation to promote the audiovisual sector in Catalonia and content in Catalan have been the key to this meeting. The round table has delved into the future of the audiovisual sector in Catalonia, in a new European scenario in which OTT platforms are positioned as one of the main points of access to entertainment, television and creative industries content.

During the debate, moderated by Victor Sala, co-director and programmer of Serielizados Fest, the challenges that Catalan OTTs face as an industry have been highlighted and possible joint strategies in favor of Catalan production and the language have been shared.

After thanking the organization of the meeting in the Audiovisual Cluster, the president of the CCMA Governing Council, Roman Rose, has been pleased to be able to share OTT projects in a very enriching debate: “The audiovisual world in Catalonia is very rich and diverse, with public and private, general and specialized initiatives, which must be valued,” she noted.

During the event, Romà highlighted that “forty years after the launch of TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio, and twenty years after the launch of TV3alacarta, an absolutely pioneering project, new challenges arise. Currently, there is a need for cooperation between the agents who are here, and in the case of the CCMA we are working to remake the digital commitment, as indicated in the Strategic Plan." In this sense, "surely we must all add and give visibility to the content in Catalan."

All participants in the OTT meeting agreed on this desire for cooperation. As has been pointed out Marc Melillas, CEO of the Local Audiovisual Network (XAL): “In the digital world, cooperation multiplies.” They have also participated in the act Juan Carlos Tous, CEO of the Filmin cine platform; Mireia Gubern, Head of Digital Content at Fundación La Caixa, and Valentine Oviedo, general director of the Gran Teatre del Liceu Foundation, who referred to user habits: “For operators, the transition to OTT is necessary because consumption habits are changing.”

The objective of do not depend too much on algorithms has been another of the points of agreement of the participants in the debate. According to Rosa Romà, from the CCMA, which is working on the new OTT, “we personalize the content based on the algorithms because it allows us to have a better reference of what the audience wants, but as a public company we have other missions to fulfill to offer. more diversified products.”
