Steven Bartlett's 'Diary of a CEO' Podcast Increases Its Production Potential with the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO Mixer
The production team responsible for the podcast Diary of a CEO of Steven Bartlett has implemented a work dynamic focused on solutions of Blackmagic Design such as the URSA Broadcast G2 and the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO mixer.
The new space, dedicated to Bartlett's multimedia projects, will continue to focus on the acclaimed podcast, as well as supporting new work in the future. Jack Sylvester, director and creator of Bartlett's audiovisual productions, oversaw the design and implementation of the study.
"Previously we had a six-camera system from two different manufacturers, which never worked very well because the images were not consistent in terms of color. Plus, we could never control them remotely from one location, so we sometimes had to interrupt interviews," says Sylvester.
When deciding how update production dynamics, Sylvester had a list of improvements based on the previous system that would be rectified with an integrated solution. Considering all the content Steven and his team create, the main goal was to streamline production.
Something fundamental was implementing a work dynamic for live productions around the mixer ATEM Mini Extreme ISO with a set of cameras that include the models URSA Broadcast G2 y Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro.
“The new system offers a wide variety of features and tools that are already helping to simplify our work dynamics and set a new benchmark for quality,” says Sylvester.
"We now have a dedicated room to organize remote content creation, which includes the ability to consolidate images from different cameras, operate them remotely and carry out rough editing on the spot. Additionally, this allows Steven and his guests to have a more intimate space, which makes for better interviewing," he adds.
The cameras
Regarding camera selection, Sylvester had certain requirements in mind. “I chose the URSA model as we needed a rugged camera that would cover all of our production requirements, whether live projects or more cinematic content, and also offer professional connections,” he says.
Sylvester adds that "Pocket Cinema Camera units are highly portable, while also providing built-in ND filters and the ability to shoot in Blackmagic RAW format, which is ideal when on the go, as it helps maintain the cinematic aesthetic. Additionally, this model is perfect for our sliders and travel planes, as it is lighter than the URSA version, but still captures images with the same quality."
"Since adding Blackmagic cameras to our system, we now have a more consistent aesthetic that is reflected across all episodes, clips and social media trailers, thanks to the same colorimetry across all cameras. Coupled with the brand's quality and affordable price, it was very easy to make the switch."
The new studio will also allow Bartlett's production company expand the variety of formats used. “While our primary focus will continue to be the podcast, we now have a dedicated space tailored to our needs that will allow us to support new ideas and formats in the future,” Sylvester concludes.
