Qatar 2022, in UHD via DTT with Sivac-One from Sapec

The Sivac-One encoder/decoder card Sapec has allowed RTVE broadcast the key matches of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar through DTT in UHD.

In view of the broadcast of the most notable meetings of Qatar 2022, different members of the association UHD Spain have joined forces to provide all the knowledge, technology and resources necessary to continue spreading the advantages of Ultra High Definition to the Spanish population.

Concretely, Sapec has contributed the module Sivac-One Media Processor (SMP1000), which is responsible for receiving the signal sent from the IBC of Qatar by IP and fiber optics, and decode it so that the computers RTVE (for emissions through TVE) y Mediapro (via World Goal) are in charge of personalizing it and leaving it ready for broadcast. That's when the Sivac-One encodes the signal again to deliver it to all DTT transmitters, in DVB-T2, Cellnex, Axion y Telecom CLM.

The signal produced UHD, beyond having the resolution 4K, has high dynamic range (HDR), wide color spectrum (BT.2020) y immersive audio in 5.1.4 format offered by technology Dolby Atmos.

Sivac-One, key to the workflow

He Sivac-One (SMP1000) from SAPEC is a next-generation, very low latency HEVC encoder/decoder card developed for the Sivac-One modular platform that can house up to three cards in a 1U rack. The junior high school target supports up to 1 canal UHD (4K) o four FHD/HD channels. Therefore, if the capacity of the SAPEC platform is fully utilized, a channel density of up to 12 canales HD o 3 UHD channels. Compatible with SMPTE 2022-1/2/7, the system has input 12G-SDI o 4x3G-SDI, redundancy N+1 and redundant supply (AC/DC), removable in caliente.

Emily Planas, CTO and Operations Manager of Mediapro, has actively participated in the design of the workflow that has allowed the World Cup in Qatar to be brought to Spanish viewers. The member of the board of directors of UHD Spain also identifies as one of the keys to the success of this project having had top level solutions: "Working in UHD-HDR workflows requires us to use the best products on the market to ensure the highest level of quality and service.
