TV 2 covers the Danish elections with a private 5G network and Haivision solutions
The technology of Haivision has allowed the TV2 Denmark cover the latest Danish elections with a low-latency private 5G network.
Denmark's national public broadcaster, TV 2, designed extensive coverage to cover the latest Danish elections from all angles. However, the limitations of the public networks in the surroundings and interior of the historic Palacio de Christiansborg, and more at an event massive attendance, were presented as an important challenge to overcome.
Providing live coverage from multiple rooms within the building meant that relying on WiFi traditional and 5G public mobile networks. Furthermore, using cables did not present itself as the most suitable solution, due to limited bandwidth and latency. To overcome all these obstacles, TV 2 decided to deploy Standalone 5G private of Neutral Wireless both inside and outside the building.
TV 2 turned to the powerful and versatile mobile transmitter Haivision Pro460 along with receiver and decoder Haivision StreamHub to achieve very low latency video transmission over the private 5G network. Live video was captured by two television cameras mounted with mobile transmitters Haivision Pro460 and sent to a receiver Haivision StreamHub via 5G. Next, StreamHub decoded the live video and sent it to the production facilities of TV 2 in Copenhagen through a dedicated fiber network. Using Haivision's 5G contribution technology, initial tests demonstrated an end-to-end latency of less than 100 milliseconds from the parliament building to its production facilities.
Morten Brandstrup, head of news technology at TV 2 Denmark, considers the coverage a “great success” thanks to equipment such as Haivision backpacks, which were “easy to deploy and worked seamlessly on our private 5G network, allowing us to achieve low-latency transmission without compromising reliability or quality.”
