Demo 5G Broadcast con Cellnex

Cellnex Telecom has been launched together with Rohde & Schwarz, Atem y Qualcomm Technologies a pilot to test 5G Broadcast emissions, the results of which have been confirmed these days at ISE 2023.

5G Broadcast will allow viewers to receive live television and radio content on their mobile phones with a low battery consumption, without the need to consume data and with quality coverage.

The tests, which began in mid-January, were carried out during the ISE international audiovisual exhibition and will end after the MWC Barcelona 2023 which will take place at Fira Gran Via de l'Hospitalet from February 27 to March 2. In this way, over seven weeks, users can access the content through their mobile devices compatible with the 5G Broadcast signal.

Thanks to the collaboration of RTVE, the contents that can be accessed include the news channel of Radio Televisión Española, Canal 24H, La1 and Radio 5.

For this test, Cellnex has deployed a new location to cover the area around the Fira Gran Via venue; the transmitter has been contributed by Rohde Schwarz; Content coding is done with Ateme equipment; and the receivers used for the demonstration incorporate Qualcomm technology.

Thanks to 5G Broadcast, broadcasters will be able to reach more devices, offering their content directly to any mobile terminal.

5GBC opens doors

5G Broadcast (5GBC) is one of the three lines of innovation of the European audiovisual industry in its roadmap for the next decade. The evolution towards higher quality with UHD broadcasts and the expansion of hybrid services, such as LovesTv, complement the innovation in new reception modes such as 5GBC.

Furthermore the 5GBC complements current networks and strengthens public service provision, opening the door to developing additional services such as, for example, early warning to all or parts of the population in emergency situations.
