Netflix chooses Ambeo 2-Channel Spatial Audio for its new service with surround audio

In addition to the content mixed for Dolby Atmos, Netflix's spatial audio catalog will also include non-Atmos immersive content. “As a brand new feature, the Ambeo 2-channel spatial audio renderer can now also process surround mixes, unlocking huge catalogs of content available in these formats,” shares Pellegrini. “For members of the Netflix Premium plan, this means they will be able to enjoy more of their favorite content in an immersive way, no matter how they watch it.”

Respectful rendering

A preview tool allows mixers to compare standard stereo with Ambeo and adjust the configuring rendering by groups or individual trunks.

Specific themes, such as dialogue, can be excluded from spatialization entirely, and music mixes can be kept in their left and right channels while immersive rendering is applied to any other themes. The renderer seeks to translate the intent of the mixer while delivering a stunning immersive audio experience previously inaccessible on two speakers.
