Twin Pines and In Extremis win the Goya for best visual effects for 'Modelo 77'

The spectacular recreation of the Barcelona model prison in the 70s signed by the team led by Ana Rubio (Twin Pines) and Esther Ballesteros (In the extremes) has allowed 'Modelo 77' to win one of the most coveted awards of the Goyas 2023.

Model 77 of Alberto Rodriguez takes the viewer to the Barcelona of the transition to offer a resounding staging of the model's prison, in which the Twin Pines has had dozens of opportunities to carry out deep intervention work on the image with 3D modeling, multiplication of characters and, ultimately, allowing the character to fully immerse themselves in a space-time almost half a century ago.

One of the keys to the production is the filming of the film between Barcelona and Sevilla, which has implied challenges in terms of the integration of both environments, as stated in the document itself. Ana Rubio: "The climb to the dome is one of the most important scenes in terms of visual effects. We couldn't climb the dome, so we shot it in Seville. We did a very important job of integrating that footage with the entire urban area of ​​that time in Barcelona."

For its part, Ballesteros highlights the complexity of combining physical effects such as “fights, explosions and fires” with the work of action specialists, a constant in Rodríguez's film. Likewise, the person responsible for In the extremes has brought to the fore the work of the team of props: "many of the objects that we see in the film that are hit or thrown are not real, even though they seem that way. It is a great job and I hope that this added value has been appreciated in the film."

It's not the first Goya to Twin Pines. After having received several novelties, the Madrid company won the statuette for its work in Akelarre in 2021.
