Telson and In Extremis win the Goya for Best Special Effects for 'El 47', a feature film with VFX in 80% of the shots

The exciting journey of the 'El 47' bus, a journey from today's Barcelona to the 50s, 60s and 70s with the help of digital intervention in more than 200 shots, has been recognized by academics with the 2025 Goya Award for Best Visual Effects.

Laura Canals and Lluis Rivera (In the extremes) next to Ivan Lopez (Telson) have collected awards representing a joint team of more than 80 professionals. First Goya for the Mediapro Group company, López has been visibly moved by a recognition that demonstrates the company's continued effort to offer an invisible intervention that allows immersion in the viewer.

In order to work in The 47, Marcel Barrena and his team had the possibility of working on virtual production, which would have facilitated the creation of digital environments on the bus route through a now extinct Ciudad Condal. However, the decision was finally made to film on location, in López's words, “for credibility.” "It was a colossal challenge to be on location going through different epics. You had to adapt the shots to the 50s, 60s...", comments the VFX manager, stressing that the work with direction has been "a marvel."

The production comes at a time of questioning visual effects processes, given the rise of tasks automated by artificial intelligence or the suitability of the digital world compared to practical effects. In this sense, Canals claims how performers need to rely on physical effects to improve and expand their performance, an opinion shared by the member of Telson: "There are fashions and they depend on each film.
