Sapec will create the encoder for the first live 8K DTT broadcast
The RTVE-UPM Chair will conduct the first live broadcast of 8K content via DVB-T2 using an encoder developed by Sapec with the collaboration of Cisco.
The engineering team Sapec is shaping a 8K encoder built on equipment developed by Cisco, an initiative that was born after the signing of a collaboration agreement within the framework of the Mobile World Congress 2023 in Barcelona. For this project, Sapec will use its knowledge in matters of UHD y video compression, treasured with pioneering projects such as the world's first ultra high definition broadcast in DVB-T2 with content in HDR, WCG of the AC-4 and materialized in equipment such as the modular platform Sivac-One.
The live broadcast that the RTVE-UPM Chair will conduct will be based on content UHD 8K, Fase-2 completa, captured with high quality and then distributed in a multiplex UHF the 8Mhz of bandwidth. This implies that not only will a signal be transmitted in 7,680 x 4,320 pixel resolution, but it will also rely on high dynamic range (HDR), expanded color gamut (WCG), high image refresh rate (HFR) and next-generation audio (that).
The live 8K DTT broadcast will take place soon at the RTVE Official Institute, a location that will host the technical description of the pilot and the live demonstration of the initiative. Sapec, as a member of the advisory committee of the RTVE Chair at the Polytechnic University of Madrid since its foundation, participates in the planning y deployment of all technological pilots and preparing technical reports for the sector, among other tasks.
Miguel Ángel Cristobal, CEO of Sapec, considers that this initiative will be a “new milestone for the Spanish broadcast industry”, which “will once again demonstrate that it is not afraid to continue exploring the path of innovation”. “At SAPEC we are proud to collaborate with the RTVE-UPM Chair and to be part of its advisory committee, and to contribute to this great initiative the talent of our team, which has been serving the broadcast industry for decades,” adds Cristóbal.
