Lawo surprises at NAB 2023: Power Core Rev3 and arrival of SRT and NDI to Home Apps
Power Core Rev 3, the next generation of the software-defined DSP mixing engine, arrives by surprise days after Theirs will present Home Apps as a great bet for NAB 2023.
The platform Power Core de 1RU continues to multiply its possibilities, this time in the form of Rev3 version with presence in NAB 2023. The system, which allows AoIP installations to scale from two- or three-room suites to massive broadcast networks, receives important new features: four RAVENNA/AES67 ports with SFP, twice the previous number, which can be used to expand I/O up to 512 RAVENNA/AES67 channels, or to provide LAN segment separations or LAN-WAN gateway applications in large-scale deployments; support for bi-directional RAVENNA/AES67 Unicast streams for wide area applications; a new USB port on the front panel, and a SD memory card slot with safety caps. All this, without maintaining its nature: that which allows it to handle thousands of analog and digital audio channels, with routing and DSP bus capabilities.
Likewise, a new GPI/O expansion card, which provides 8 GPI + 8 GPO and 2 VCA inputs. This release brings control capabilities to the Power Core family of expansion cards, including analog, microphone, AES3 and MADI cards, a DANTE I/O card for interfacing with professional audio networks, and a convenient studio I/O card with 2 mic/line inputs, 2 line outputs and 2 HP outputs. Power Core Rev. 3 is also compatible with Lawo's new 8-slot Audio I/O Extender (AIOX). Up to 20 AIOX devices equipped with I/O cards can connect to a single Power Core, expanding system I/O by an additional 1,280 channels.
Las new DSP features Power Core Rev3 features include a low-latency loudness leveler that adjusts audio to a preset loudness target, a high-granularity equalizer with expanded “Q” values to fine-tune EQ curves with pinpoint precision, a self-programmed sidechain filter for dynamics processing, a de-esser with adjustable trigger frequency, and support for up to 8 AutoMix groups and 16 VCA groups.
Combined with Lawo's dynamics suite (compressor, gate, expander, de-esser, limiter, delay and loudness meter), Power Core Rev3 is thus presented as a flexible audio modeling tool to work in different broadcast environments.
New licenses for Power Core
The presentation of Power Core Rev 3 en NAB 2023 It has been accompanied by new licenses, such as Power Core Compact, an option for broadcasters that manage small and medium-sized broadcasters capable of supporting console sizes from 2 to 16 faders. Other licensing options include Power Core Edge I/O and Super Audio Node configurations; the Console L and XL licenses for consoles with up to 60 physical faders, and the MAX multiple access license that allows a single Power Core to provide resources to a maximum of 4 diamond consoles or virtual interfaces.
Three new “add-on” licenses have also been introduced: Conference Assign (which provides complete control over the level of the associated N-1 bus and allows inclusion or exclusion of other N-1 buses), AUX Pan (which allows you to control the panning of individual sources per AUX bus) and RAVENNA Plus (enabling up to 512 AoIP channels). Lawo has confirmed that it will continue to offer the existing add-on license packages for GPI/O, MiniMixer, N-1 and expansion Loopback.
Lawo strengthens its relationship with SRT and NDI
With the aim of continuing to increase the versatility of its solutions, Lawo has announced in NAB 2023 important agreements with two of the most popular protocols today.
HOME Apps by Lawo will support streams received in format SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) y NDI, including the ability to transcode and transmit a variety of incoming source streams to destinations compatible with both protocols. Lawo's intention is to offer broadcasters and media production services the maximum flexibility and agility to cover live events. Specifically, there are three applications that will benefit from this model: multiviewer, UDX conversion with HDR processing y graphic inserter.
The announcement has been finished with the confirmation that Theirs becomes part of SRT Alliance, which currently has more than 600 members.
